Grind Region Preview: Texas Legion Elite
We may be in the middle of high school basketball season but it’s not too early to look ahead to what’s coming up on the AAU circuit. Over the next few months we will be taking a look at the teams that will be participating in the PrepHoops Circuit Grind Region and here’s a look at Texas Legion Elite.
Texas Legion Elite will have a teams in the 17U, 16U, and 15U divisions of the Grind Region. They will be participating in the #GrindSzn Kickoff, Mayhem in the Plex, and Grind Region Finals.
Here’s a transcript of a conversation we had with coach Norris Neal.
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
The purpose of starting this program was to create an environment in which kids/young athletes could grow and develop while networking and progressing. I started this program with out of high school in 2009. My coaching staff contains men who have payed at nearly every level both amateur and professionally. We feel we have the perfect nucleus of leadership that allows everyone to learn and have a great balance of on court and off court resources both athletically and academically.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
TX Legion Elite’s goal for this year is to capitalize on the exposure and provide ample opportunities for our payers to grow and attain college scholarship opportunities. Although we have a good number of kids who already hold multiple offers, we want to help shape them to be ready for college and help them continue to be leaders.
What is your program’s mission each year?
Our program mission is to develop student-athletes and ultimately simulate the college experience that these young men aspire to go to. We are doing this by focusing on the athletic training side of things as well as skill development and academic development. We have a close knit family environment in our program and our coaches, players, and parents all epitomize those qualities.
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
Most will highlight the prospects on our 17u team, however, we have prospects on all high school level teams in our program. Each team has their own identity and as a director, I am extremely excited to see these kids all get the attention they deserve. Our entire program has potential to be dominant. We take pride in promoting all levels.
Why did you choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
Our primary focus in choosing the PrepHoops circuit is to provide our program maximum exposure during the summer. The current NCAA rule changes in place have created an environment that makes getting exposure at each event a necessity. Thru my conversations with multiple outlets, including college coaches and scouting services, Prephoops is highly regarded as catering to its teams and prioritizing exposure/coverage.
