Today we look at the McAllen Ballers who will have a squad competing on the 17U circuit. This team will be at the #GrindSzn Kickoff, Mayhem in the Plex, and the Grind Region Finals.
Below is our chat with program director Juan Galvan previewing this upcoming season:
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
We started the Ballers ten years ago to help kids from the Rio Grande Valley get exposure to play at the next level. We also wanted to show kids how to give back to the community on and off the court.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
Our goal for 2019 is to get our kids as much exposure as possible.
What is your program’s mission each year?
It is the mission of the McAllen Ballers Boys Basketball Program to keep kids off the streets and provide an opportunity for them to learn and enjoy the game of basketball in a safe, supervised, and positive environment. Our goal is to teach young athletes respect for themselves, their peers, and their community by instilling a code of ethics built on honesty, responsibility, and teamwork. We have an unprecedented level of determination and intensity to strive to be the best at everything we do on the court, in the classroom, and in everyday life. Together, our players, families, and volunteers work with a steadfast spirit to ensure a safe and disciplined environment so every child can reach their full potential and help guide them on a life path fated for success.
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
All twelve players on our roster can go. Look out for:
- Bryan Argil (6’0″ Guard)
- Genaro Elizondo (6’5″ Forward)
- Mauro Fernandez (5’11” Guard)
- Damian Maldonado (6’6″ Forward)
- Genaro Elizondo (6’5″ Forward)
Why did your program choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
The Prep Hoops Circuit really looks like the up and coming circuit compared to the old ones.
