Grind Region Preview: Houston Raptors
We may be in the middle of high school basketball season but it’s not too early to look ahead to what’s coming up on the AAU circuit. Over the next few months we will be taking a look at the teams that will be participating in the PrepHoops Circuit Grind Region and here’s a look at Houston Raptors.
Houston Raptors will field teams in the 17U and 16U divisions of the Grind Region and will be at the #GrindSzn Kickoff, Mayhem in the Plex, and Grind Region Finals.
Here’s a transcript of a conversation we had with program director and head coach Bobby Benjamin.
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
I started my program to give unprivileged kids an opportunity to compete and play the game they love. This will be our 5th year as a organization.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
Our goal is to develop kids and make sure every kid game go to another level.
What is your program’s mission each year?
Our mission is to connect kids with colleges and increase player recruitment.
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
Unfortunately we don’t have any returning players, most kids from our 17u team last year received offers to play college ball. This year we have several kids to keep an eye out for. DJ Stewart is a true PG who’s lead his team to the 4th round of the playoffs and still competing for a State Championship, Jordan Ivycurry 6’2 guard who can do it all and plays at a high level. 6’5 wing Cameron Beatty great slasher who’s pretty crafty with the ball. Zac Harris 6’4″ guard possesses mental and physical agility, and a strong vertical jump. He has a triple threat shooting ability–he shoots threes, lay-ups and in between. Seth Murray 6’1 SG who made eight 3’s in the 3rd round of the playoffs and he’s still competing for a State Championship. Those are just a few of many players to watch.
Why did you choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
We decided to participate on the prep hoops circuit after doing some research we felt it would be great exposure for our guys.
