Grind Region Preview: High Plains Storm
We may be in the middle of high school basketball season but it’s not too early to look ahead to what’s coming up on the AAU circuit. Over the next few months we will be taking a look at the teams that will be participating in the PrepHoops Circuit Grind Region and here’s a look at High Plains Storm.
High Plains Storm will have teams in the 17U, 16U, and 15U divisions of the Grind Region and will be at the #GrindSzn Kickoff, Mayhem in the Plex, and Grind Region Finals.
Here’s a transcript of a conversation we had with founder and coach Jake Regier.
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
I started my program to give back to the kids in the Panhandle and Tri-State area. There has never been a sustained boys program for athletes in the area, and I wanted to give kids the chance for some exposure, experience and to create friendships that will last a lifetime. This last year I partnered with Lonnie Bailey the High Plains Storm, who have produced incredible girls teams and players, and took on the challenge of rejuvenating the boys program.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
As a program, we hope to give our athletes a great environment to grow as a person, gain experience, and obtain exposure.
What is your program’s mission each year?
Our team motto has been Faith. Family. Basketball. Our mission is to live this example out as coaches.
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
