Today we look at Dallas Showtyme who will have multiple teams competing on the 15U, 16U, and 17U circuits. This squad will be at the #GrindSzn Kickoff, Mayhem in the Plex, and the Grind Region Finals. The Gorillas are a household name in grassroots basketball and it will be exciting to watch them compete in the inaugural year of the Prep Hoops Circuit.
Below is our chat with program director Erven “Big E” Davis previewing this upcoming season:
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
Dallas Showtyme was started to give back to the community. I had watched my father (who now works with me) do it at a smaller scale and saw how much of an impact he had in children’s lives. I wanted to build on that and still keep the family element to it. Dallas Showtyme started in 2005.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
Our goal is to be the best version of ourselves and to have the next unknown fulfilled dreams that possibly could not have happened for them elsewhere. We want to continue to show that you can get all you need right here in the jungle. A family for life, good coaching, discipline, expected toughness, love, and an arena to expose yourself to be able to play at the next level for free. Basketball has taken me places I would have never been without it. We want them to use it to get the education you need to be a productive person in this world.
What is your program’s mission each year?
Each year our goal is to get each child better for their upcoming school year. We feel if we do this in conjunction with the high school doing the same, then that child will have an excellent opportunity to play post high school. Besides that, we hope to make them better people.
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
Keep an eye out for all of our players. We had three good 16u teams last year which should lead to three 17u squads full of prospects. Some will always separate themselves, but I’m going to let their play dictate that.
Why did you choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
First I’d like to say thank you for the interview and your professionalism. Guys such as yourself (Brandon Jenkins) is one of the main reasons why I joined Preps Hoops Circuit. You work hard and I know you going to give these kids exposure they need more than ever with the new rules. Everyone is not all americans, so every little bit helps. I remember when Paul Miranda of Friday Night Glory introduced you to me and you have that same work ethic and you are in gym all the time. The other reason is how well the event was ran in Oklahoma last year. The Prep Hoops staff did an excellent job and I learned I could trust their word.
Any Shoutouts?
Not many programs have been rocking with the same staff for over ten years like us. I salute you guys. Our program isn’t what it is without all of you. FOE!
