Today we look at D1 Prospects who will have teams competing on the 13U, 14U, 16U, and 17U circuits. This squad will be at the #GrindSzn Kickoff, Mayhem in the Plex, and the Grind Region Finals.
Below is our chat with program director Calvin Ward previewing this upcoming season:
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
I started the program as a way to improve the basketball players in the South Brazoria County area. This will be the D1 Prospects second year as a program.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
We have two goals. Our primary goal is to position each one of our players to have the opportunity to be properly evaluated by college basketball coaches regardless of level. Our secondary goal is to help each player individually improve so that the ones returning can help their respective high school programs next year.
What is your program’s mission each year?
Our mission each year is to prove to EVERYONE that small town country kids can play on an elite level also.
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
Yes all but one player is returning. Look out for: Cameron Ward, Marcus Edwards, Marquise Edwards, Jalen Williams, Christian Ellis, William Carlson, and Ray Ray Bell. All kids except for one received all-district honors this past year.
Why did your program choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
I had seen some of the flyers on the Prep Hoops Circuit and it appeared like a great concept. I talked with my good friend Melvin Holloway of Texas Elite and he recommended it. Therefore, I told my parents that we should do it and they were in agreement.
