The eight teams that remain in the race for the class 7A state title are McEachern, Norcross, Tift County, Roswell, Meadowcreek, Discovery, Peachtree Ridge, and Pebblebrook. There were some surprising upsets in the sweet 16 and also some good matchups. Preview the elite 8 matchups below.
Top Left Quadrant
Roswell @ Norcross
The Roswell Hornets will appear in their fourth ever elite 8 game after defeating Marietta in the sweet 16 round. Their hands will be full as they travel to powerhouse Norcross who defeated a very talented Grayson squad on the road in their sweet 16 matchup. The Blue Devils should potentially punch their ticket to their third straight final four appearance in Georgia’s class 7A.
Bottom Left Quadrant
Peachtree Ridge @ McEachern
This might be McEachern’s toughest competition they will see so far in the state playoffs, hopefully. Peachtree Ridge defeated Archer in their sweet 16 game and they will now get a crack at this McEachern squad for the first time this season. The road to the GEICO Nationals are still in play for the Indians and they should advance to the final four round where they should meet Norcross. The Indians defeated Cherokee in their sweet 16 matchup.
Top Right Quadrant
Pebblebrook @ Meadowcreek
These two programs will meet for the first time since last season’s season opener and where Pebblebrook defeated the defending champions in the On the Radar Showcase. All Pebblebrook’s games in the playoffs have came on the road after defeating North Paulding and now Etowah. Their next test will be Meadowcreek, who defeated a tough Newton squad in their sweet 16 game. I would not sleep on Pebblebrook, as this squad is capable of pulling the upset.
Bottom Right Quadrant
Tift County @ Discovery
Remember we told this quadrant would be the most competitive? Well it certainly showed. Tift County defeated Wheeler by two in their sweet 16 matchup whiile Discovery defeated Shiloh by just one point. This matchup here will be the best one yet and the most competitive for sure. Both programs have been tough and slepted on all year long and they will be looking to punch their ticket to Buford City Arena next Saturday night.
