Continue ReadingEnsworth and Briarcrest Christian brought two electric, exceptionally athletic squads to Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena Thursday.
These players dominated for long stretches in the state semifinal battle.
Keshawn Lawrence, 6’3 WG (Ensworth) — 2020
Capable of playing college football at the highest level, Keshawn Lawrence continues to impress as a basketball star. Lawrence’s dynamic investment impacts so many plays all over the court.
Lawrence serves as a secondary ball-handler, a top rebounder, an elite perimeter defender, an emotional leader. When Lawrence sits the tone of the team shifts dramatically. Players innately work harder when he is around.
Keshawn Lawrence possess incredible body control. It is just silly for anyone to look so agile against a team of 2-3 D1 hoopers and 2 D1 football players, but Lawrence really moves like a Tiger for @Ensworth_Hoops .

Key Collier, 6’2 G (Ensworth) — 2019
For a team loaded with athletes and slashers Key Collier offers something unique. Collier hits the outside shot and loves to pull up in traffic. He has a game reminiscent of Richard “Rip” Hamilton. Without Collier, Ensworth becomes uni-dimensional and extremely direct.
Omari Thomas, 6’4 C (Briarcest Christian) — 2020
“The Big O” made a big impact. He is so strong, and so large. Destined to play college football, Thomas overwhelmed the Ensworth post defense with size and strength. Thomas’ 280ish pound body gave him approximately 80 pounds of leverage to move each player around with.
Thomas, almost entirely individually, drew four fouls on Ed Eubanks.
Kennedy Chandler, 6’0 PG (Briarcest Christian) — 2021
Everything about Kennedy screams star. Kennedy is a blur with the basketball. He hits outside shots regularly, but most importantly Kennedy Chandler takes and makes the big shots many players cower from.
The third quarter, during which Briarcrest Christian took command of the game, Kennedy scored 7 points to Ensworth’s 8. He and teammate Omari Thomas completely changed the complexion and tenor of the basketball game.
Chandler displays basketball wisdom well beyond his years. He knows where the help defender is coming from. He feels defenders on his hips and often creates fouls with his feigned reaction. There are so many subtle aspects of Chandler’s game that take most players a decade to perfect.
Marcellus Brigham Jr., 6′ PG (North Scott) — 2019
Marcellus shares a soft touch in the mid-range. Brigham Jr. tends to be near the basketball at pivotal moments in each possession. Many of the loose balls and offensive rebounds conveniently found his hands.
Ed Eubanks, 6′ WG (Ensworth) — 2019
I keep saying it, but he keeps doing it…Ed Eubanks is summoning every bit of strength he has defending 280ish pound Omari Thomas. He does pick up his second foul, Sits.
25-16 Ensworth leads. Marcellus Brigham to the FT line.
