Top Performers from Playoffs: Round 1

Round 1 is in the books for the 2019 Georgia HS basketball playoffs. A lot of interesting plots occurred during round 1. Let’s recap all the action that occurred this past week.

 

TOP PERFORMERS

National POY candidate,SHAREEF COOPER showed you why he’s in the conversation. Cooper scored 42 points and grabbed 7 rebs in a blowout win of East Coweta 85-54. McEachern will play Cherokee in round 2.

 

ISSAC OKORO was a stat stuffer for the Indians in their win over East Coweta. The Auburn commit, scored 17 pts,7 rebs, 5 blks, 5 steals and 4 asts.

 

BJ BOSTON Norcross sesnsational junior put up 25 points in a victory over Mountain View. Boston is one of the top rising seniors in the country.

 

KYLE STURDIVANT Boston’s teammate, dropped 21 in the victory. Sturdivant is going to USC.

 

JJ RICHARDS Richards helped Douglass Co in a victory of Apalachee. Richards had 19 points,10 asts, 6 rebs.

 

CAMERON SHEFFIELD from Chattahoochee High had 24 points and 15 rebs in a 78-64 victory over Sprayberry.

 

SCOOTA HENDERSON AND JUSTIN PERRY both dropped a 20 piece on Lithia Springs. The Kell Longhorns defeated Lithia Springs 84-73. Henderson dropped 24 while Perry dropped 22.

 

One of the hottest 2020 kids in Georgia, showed you why he showed be a player of the year candidate. Rome High’s CALEB BYRD scored 26 points in upset overtime victory over no.1 seed RIverwood.

 

SUTTON SMITH DENMARK HS Smith had 24 points in a victory over Ridgeland 70-46

TRAVON WALKER AND ZYRICE SCOTT UPSON-LEE The 2 time defending state champs flexed their muscles in a first round victory against Richmond Academy. Walker, a UGA football commit dropped 20 pts and 13 rebs, Scott had 15 points and 8 asts.

 

WALKER KESSLER WOODWARD ACADEMY The 5 star 2020 player, had 26 points and 13 rebs in come from behind overtime victory against Westover. His teammate, JACORRI TURNER scored 26 points in the victory.

 

TJ BICKERSTAFF SANDY CREEK The Drexel commit had 19 points and 8 asts in a 88-42 victory over North Oconee.

 

SAMUEL DEPEW ROCKMART The senior for the yellow jackets led his team with 22 points in a hard fought battle against Hapeville Charter.

 

JUSTIN MALLORY GREENE CO Mallory had a dominating performance in his 1st round win. He finished the night with 19 points and 30 rebs.

 

IF YOU LOOKING FOR A 2ND ROUND GAME…..

 

NORCROSS AT GRAYSON 

This game could be a state championship game.The Gwinnett County teams will square off in the 2nd round.

Can Boston continue his hot hand? Or will the rams handle home court?

GAC AT MORGAN CO

The top two teams in 3A must decide it in the 2nd round. Coach Sims will definitely have his guys ready.

The winner of this game will probably win the state title.

FAYETTE CO AT EAGLES LANDING

The winner of this contest may have the inside track to playing for the state title. This is a southern crescent battle.

THOMASVILLE AT WOODVILLE-TOMPKINS

Woodville has been number one all season in AA. Can the bulldogs of Thomasville test them?

EVANS AT TUCKER

These teams have a combined 49 wins. Something has to give.

WHEELER AT TIFT CO

Two powerhouses in the state of Georgia battle it out in South Georgia. These schools have a combined 4 state titles in the last 15 years.

SPENCER AT SOUTH ATLANTA

One of the most underrated areas with basketball talent in the state of Georgia is the Columbus area. Spencer has a bunch of seniors that are ready to shock the Hornets. South Atlanta, is a powerhouse in AA.

AMERICUS-SUMTER AT UPSON-LEE

Two time defending state champs, Upson-Lee will have a tough road to repeat as state champs. Watch out for this game. It will be a sneaky good one.

WESLEYAN AT CHRISTIAN HERITAGE

This Dalton private school has quietly made some noise over the last 2 seasons. This will be a signature win for the Lions against a tradition rich school like Wesleyan.

GREENE CO AT IRWIN CO

” SOUTH GEORGIA GOT SOMETHING TO SAY” In 1995, Andre 3000 from the legendary rap group, OUTKAST stated the South had something about their rise in the rap game. High schools in South Georgia go under the radar.

Vidalia is known for more than onions. This is a big time basketball town. Early CO has been a force to reckon with all season.
