Post-season basketball is just around the corner, but there are many games with conference championships still on the line in the next few weeks. Here are some of the tonight’s big matchups with predictions.
Poplar Bluff at Sikeston, 7 p.m. – A battle of two of the top teams in Southeast Missouri will hook up tonight. Poplar Bluff is a contender in Class 5 while Sikeston is undefeated and currently ranked No. 1 in Class 4. The Bulldogs have all kinds of firepower with its four guard offense and pressure defense while Poplar Bluff will counter with its halfcourt game and 6’3″ 2019 standout forward Dominique Hardimon. (Prediction: Sikeston).
Chaminade at DeSmet, 7 p.m. – A Metro Catholic Conference battle with Chaminade trying to get a little revenge after suffering a heartbreaking defeat to DeSmet in early December. The Spartans rallied from a 21-point deficit to stun Chaminade on a half-court heave by 2019 guard Evan Asleson. DeSmet has been on a roll at 17-3 while Chaminade is trying to right itself after losing a few key players via transfer during the season. They are regrouping around 6’6″ 2020 standout Luke Kasubke. (Prediction: DeSmet).
Park Hill South at Lee’s Summit North, 7 p.m. – This is a battle of two excellent backcourts that can really control the game. Park Hill South is led by Nebraska-Omaha signee Lamel Robinson and point guard Desi Williams while Lee’s Summit North has a potent backcourt of its own in Javaunte Hawkins and Mikel Henderson. (Prediction: Lee’s Summit North).
Blue Springs South at Rockhurst, 7 p.m. – Undefeated Rockhurst is rolling along at 19-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 5. The Hawklets have offensive threats at every position on the floor while Blue Springs South has a nice 2019 wing in Jared Ravencamp and 6’7″ 2021 forward Jaylon McDaniel (Prediction: Rockhurst).
McCluer North at Ladue, 7 p.m. – These two excellent teams will face each other in a battle of who can control the tempo. McCluer North is smaller, but they are quick and very athletic in the transition game with explosive bookend wings A’Tavian Butler and Patrick Evans. Ladue has plenty of size with 6’7″ 2019 Moses Okpala and 6’6″ 2020 Evan Schneider and an excellent point guard in 2020 Jaylen Boyd. (Prediction: Ladue)
Hartville at Dora, 7 p.m.- Dora enters the week as the No. 1 team in Class 1 and its has been on a roll with its four guard offense, led by 2021 scoring phenom Isaac Haney. They will face a Hartville team that has won 14 games and its always in the mix in the Class 2 scene. (Prediction: Dora)
