We are going to go through each class and detail four teams to pay attention to that are under-the-radar heading into the tournament. The rules for this are we can’t pick a team that is ranked by AP Poll Top 10 and we want one team from each region of the state.
Team From Sectional 17-20: Griffith
Griffith is 15-4 and already has some solid wins this year against Andrean, Crown Point, South Bend Washington, and Gary 21st Century. For a Region team, they have been tested pretty well and is already 5-1 against 3A teams, 2-0 against Sectional teams. They will have to get past Gary West but they should have a pretty solid chance. This Regional is pretty tough, however, and it isn’t likely there are many surprises but this might be where it comes from.
Team From Sectional 21-24: Fort Wayne Concordia
This is actually a wide-open Sectional and Regional for Concordia, a team that has kind of been all over the map this year. They are 10-9 but at their best they have beaten Fort Wayne Carroll, Leo, Bishop Dwenger, and New Haven. Their biggest loss was to Angola in their most recent game and they may have to rectify that result to make it through. But, if they can get on a hot streak here, there aren’t many middling teams that has the signature wins like Concordia.
Team From Sectional 25-28: Greencastle
The Guerin Catholic Sectional is absolutely loaded and you could pick any number of teams to make it out of there but one team under the radar is Greencastle. They should be the favorite to win their Sectional but in terms of coming from the shadows and possibly making it to the third weekend, this team might have it. They have shooting, some size, and play pretty tough, physical enough to handle some of the Indy-area teams. Their greatest asset is only one team will come out of Guerin Catholic.
Team From Sectional 29-32: Washington
In their Sectional, they have Princeton and Southridge along with a solid Sullivan group. However, Washington already holds wins over Princeton and are the only team to trip up Heritage Hills. They also only lost by 1 to Southridge. This team looks the part of spoiler and nobody is talking about them. A lucky draw here could be all they need to get through to the next round.
