Continue ReadingThe season is winding down now and we are going to start looking ahead to the postseason. We are going to go through each class and detail four teams to pay attention to that are under-the-radar heading into the tournament. The rules for this are we can’t pick a team that is ranked by AP Poll Top 10 and we want one team from each region of the state.
Team From Sectional 49-52: Elkhart Christian
Elkhart Christian is one of the very, very few teams in this Regional that stands a chance at being a true sleeper. They are just 9-9 on the year but they play in a pretty easy Sectional and are one of three schools in these four Sectionals that has at least a .500 record but isn’t ranked. Not great company. Almost by process of elimination Elkhart Christian gets the nod here. They have, however, beaten two of the teams in their Sectionals and have yet to play Argos, the best team in the Sectional.
Team From Sectional 53-56: Seton Catholic
At 12-8, Seton Catholic isn’t as good as they have been in past years but they have some key games on their schedule with some interesting results. First off, their Sectional is not great with only Blue River joining them as the only teams over .500. They have lost to Blue River in their matchup but only by 4 points. They also have a very close loss to Oldenburg Academy, one of the best 1A teams in the state. They have had a much tougher overall schedule. Also, they just got done beating Greenwood Christian and have Lapel coming up later tonight as another late season test.
Team From Sectional 57-60: Indianapolis Metropolitan
With a few options, the most intriguing one here is Metro. They flawed but talented group has had a very odd year starting off strong, having a big layoff for more than two weeks, and then dropping some really random games to Lighthouse South and Bethesda Christian. At 10-7, their record doesn’t jump off the page but they have taken down Park Tudor, Cardinal Ritter, Martinsville, and Chatard. They will have to get past University but they have beaten teams that are arguably better already this year.
Team From Sectional 61-64: Christian Academy
While Christian Academy has the best record in their Sectional, it isn’t a sure thing they will win it with South Central and Lanesville also sitting there. However, they are 5-0 against Sectional opponents and 9-0 against 1A teams. So, if they make it out which is likely but not a given, they should get an easy Regional Semifinal opponent before possibly having to take on Barr-Reeve and this team might actually be able to match up pretty well with them.
