Continue ReadingIt’s been a crazy two years for the Fayetteville Academy Eagles . Around this time last year , they were home thinking about what went wrong as they had lost in the first round of the conference and state tournaments. With a team that had quite a few juniors , they knew that they had another year and opportunity to make a run.
This is where things get interesting, they brought in a new Head Coach in Bill Boyette who has won championships before on the public school level . Combine that with the transfer of Star PG John Michael Wright and the addition of Freshman Amari Pearson from South View to go along with the previous talent. Before the season began you could see the difference in the team. The attention to defensive detail was something that we hadn’t previously seen, the seniors all were hungry to win games and once the season began, they hit the ground running. Finishing the overall season with a record of 27-3, you can see how dominate this group was and how hard they worked for everything they got. Their work was culminated in the state championship game with a dominating win over Wayne Country Day with their “Big 3” each playing their part.
Colleges that are looking for players should consider themselves lucky as all of the seniors are Unsigned
Guard John Michael Wright is a player that quite a few D1 programs are on . He can do a bit of everything from the PG spot, he’s put up monster scoring numbers but also has been impressive rebounding and finding teammates. Schools such as Boston College , Providence and High Point have all been in to see him recently . What separates him from a lot of other players is his will to win , he loves to compete and doesn’t back down from a challenge.
Forward/ Center Emmanuel Izunabor is another player that has D1 interest and offers. The 6’9 big man has gotten better each year and is a player that can give you a double/double on a nightly basis. Blocking shots and rebounding are definitely things he does well and can translate smoothly to the next level .
Forward William Oyenodi: His play as the season has gone on has only gotten better. Rebounding and finishing inside the paint are things that he does at a high level. D2 programs have begun to express more interest as Barton College recently offered. You need a player on your team that can score the ball in a physical manner and that’s what he brings to the table .
