Favorites Webb School and C.P.A. Advance, Now What?
Division IIA District 3 favorite Webb School predictability blasted Middle Tennessee Christian, 62-24.
Two-seeded C.P.A. set up a semfinal against Knowledge Academies with a blowout of Franklin Road Academy, 60-30.
Knowledge Academies guard Timothy Chatman Jr. is one of the best scorers in the district (18.8 ppg). In order for Knowledge to advance he will have to be incredible Friday.
Webb School-Bell Buckle is still the favorite in District 3. C.P.A. is playing like a state-bound squad. Will the top two favorites win again?
Tomorrow is earned.
Semifinals
#2 C.P.A. (22-8) vs. #3 Knowledge Academies (15-10)
Head Coach Drew Maddux’s C.P.A. Lions are playing wonderful basketball.
Knowledges Academies lost their last four games against C.P.A. There is a significant gap between this #2 and #3 and Knowledge Academies advancing requires some creative imagining. As long as Knowledge Academies wins one of their next two games they will make it to the region tournament.
#1 Webb School (21-6) vs. #4 Battleground Academy (11-12)
Don’t expect a competitive game. Webb School will maul the MTCS team. The best junior in the state, and a future pro, Keon Johnson is unstoppable in Division II and few teams in the state are capable of even slowing him down. Look for strong offensive and defensive support from J.J. Platt and Jordan Jenkins. Both are physical guards.
Webb’s probable starters: Keon Johnson, J.J. Platt, Jordan Jenkins, Henry Moore, Cole Connelly.
Players to Watch
Keon Johnson – 2020 – G/F – Webb School
Can Keon be over-hyped? It is difficult to imagine any praise heaped upon Keon Johnson that is not earned and deserved. Keon Johnson would be the best high school prospect in Tennessee if not for once in a generation big man James Wiseman. Johnson should get a host of awards in the coming weeks. All of them will be appropriate. He is the best.
J.J. Platt – 2020 – PG – Webb School
The second best player at the @PrepHoopsTN Fall Combine, J.J. Platt is again the second best player…as the best player in the state happens to wear the same jersey. Platt is a star in his own right and certain to play after college. Platt can bounce with the best of them. He attacks without fear and finishes with power.
Dean Cooper – 2020 – WG – C.P.A.
Dual-sport athlete Dean Cooper pumped in 13 points in the opening round win, nine of them in the second half. Cooper has the heft to rebound and defend the paint at this level. Cooper’s toughness couples well with McCormick.
Braden Zapp – 2021 – PG – C.P.A.
C.P.A. never played lost or unsteady, but adding Zapp to the lineup gives them a wonderful ball-handler. Zapp sees the floor well and more importantly can get the basketball to dangerous spots.
Webb Varsity Boys start their District Tournament run with a win tonight in Barton Athletic Center against Middle Tennessee Christian School. Keon Johnson honored pre-game for reaching 2000 pats asa Junior!! Let’s move to the right and play in semis on Friday @ CPA

Timothy Chatman – 2019 – G – Knowledge Academies
Fantastic scorer. For years Chatman has been amassing stark scoring games. His aggression is difficult to match. Defenders struggle to summon the same energy as Chatman. He doesn’t reach satisfaction after a couple made buckets.
McNeil Stout – 2019 – G – C.P.A.
With the Lions’ spacing, players like McNeil Stout are perfectly positioned. Stout will hit his shot and defenses won’t have much chance of defending him. McCormick does a great job of drawing a second defender and getting Stout those looks.
Bryce McCormick – 2019 – G – C.P.A.
Not a single player in Tennessee more deeply personifies the program he plays for. Bryce is a two-sport star that completely dominates his zones, his duties every single game. McCormick is the kind of leader and star that needs no external prodding. He is ready and teammates notice, teammates adhere to his high expectations. They have to. He pulls it out of them with invested, hard-nosed play.
Savon Wykle – 2020 – WG – Knowledge Academies
The surprisingly adept second fiddle to Timothy Chatman Jr,, Savon helps with an impressive 15.5 points per game. Wykle gets his work done inside the arc.
Great win tonight vs. FRA in the first round of District Tournament to move to Friday’s semi-finals at 8:30pm.
Braden Zapp 16
Dean Cooper 13
Bryce McCormick 12
McNeill Stout 6
Jack Gregory 6We are excited to host the District Tounrmanet this weekend.

Braeden Moore – 2022 – WG – C.P.A.
Shooting touch. C.P.A. Head Coach Drew Maddux gets to mold Moore into his likeness. Both are tall, extremely accurate long-range shooters. Maddux scored 1689 career points for Vanderbilt University. Moore can become a similarly fantastic shooter with his makeup and access to great coaching.
