Continue ReadingSpringfield High School was home to several CBC and SWBL teams Tuesday night. While Urbana and Kenton Ridge ultimately saw their season come to an end, the players from both teams impressed us all night. I take a look at the teams during the night and provide my notes on my top performers.
Kenton Ridge- It was a tough night for the Cougars as they were unable to find much spark against the athletic Polar Bears defense. They were unable to handle the Northridge pressure and forced turnovers all over the floor. Tyler Eberhart (2020) was one of the bright points as he excelled in the midrange. Knocking down several pullup jumpers with defenders in his face at times, he provided Kenton Ridge with an offensive spark in the 2nd half. When KR did find success, it was in pick-and-roll situations. Collin Perkins (2020) especially did well using his body to create space.
Northridge- The Polar Bears were by far the most dominant team at Springfield Tuesday night. Twon Hines (2019) was all over the floor on both ends of the floor. Offensively he split defenders and finished through traffic all night, while leading a trapping half court defense on the opposite end. The defense as a unit covered all areas of the floor and made it difficult for Kenton Ridge to establish themselves at all. Charles Drewery (2019) played a great defensive game, specifically shutting down Eberhart on the perimeter. One area of concern is free throws, as Northridge missed several opportunities to finish off the game.
Benjamin Logan- The Raiders finished off an Urbana team that played hard throughout the night. Ben Logan defensively jump trapped early and often in the half court creating issues for the Hillclimbers to find offense. The back side rotation was on time and kept Urbana out of the paint. Cole Jones (2019) was a constant outside threat, forcing Urbana to defend him tight on the perimeter. Nolan Robson(2019) was another backcourt threat with incredible court vision. He found his teammates all night with some shifty passing but found the bucket as well. Ben Logan will face a challenge with Northridge on Saturday night.
Urbana- The Hillclimbers utilized a 4 guard offense to try and spread the floor against a Ben Logan team that had seen them before. The guards surrounded Grant Hower (2020), a big power forward that struggled to get into a groove due to foul trouble. Isaiah Fonseca (2020) stepped up and provided Urbana with the spark they needed by scoring at all 3 levels. There is a lot to be excited for in Urbana as they lose only 3 seniors from this season’s team.
