We have officially entered postseason play in the state of Texas. On Monday at Grand Prairie High School in Grand Prairie, Texas, I covered a bidistrict round 1 matchup between Arlington Bowie and LD Bell. From the very beginning of the game you could tell that it was going to be a physical fast pace affair. LD Bell separated themselves early by finishing in transition and defending well as a team. Bell went to the half up by a few points but Bowie came out swinging and the second half and seemed like they were about to take the lead. Bell trio Deng Alier, Edward Zachariah and Jaden Wells stepped it up another notch late in the 4th to withstand Bowie’s attempt to take the lead. Bell ended up winning 77-66 over the Arlington Bowie Volunteers.
Prep Hoops Player Breakdown
Jaden Wells / 6’2” / SG / LD Bell / 2020
Wells was locked in offensively and defensively versus Bowie. He got out well in transition and beat others up the floor for easy layups. Wells did a great job of shooting the gaps on defense and deflecting passes on the perimeter. Jaden finished with 24 points in the opening round win.
Deng Alier / 6’5” / SF / LD Bell / 2020
Alier is an athletic wing that likes to attack the rim from the perimeter. Alier is also a strong ball handler that can bring the ball up and isolate slower defenders at the top of the key. On defense he uses his athletic ability and physicality to rebound at a high level.
Edward Zachariah / 6’5” / Forward / 2019
Zachariah was active the entire game and played like it was his last time on the floor. He was blocking and contesting nearly every shot in the paint. Zachariah finished with 13 points multiple rebounds and 6 block shots in the win.
Donta Coady / 6’4” / SF / Arlington Bowie / 2021
Coady does a lot of things well at the forward spot. He can shoot, slash and makes smart passes in the half court setting. Coady is long and has decent athleticism but needs to continue to work on his body as well as athletic ability to reach his full potential.
