Continue ReadingThe updated power rankings have been released for Dayton and there is a new #1 in Division I while the majority of the divisions staying the same. This week also debuts a new ranking system called the Total Team Index (TTI). Similar to the RPI in college basketball, the TTI looks at a team’s entire work, however it puts a special emphasis on a team’s top wins and also punishes for a team’s bad losses. I will be using the TTI to help rank the Top 5 in the Dayton Power Rankings going forward. Take a look below at the updated Power Rankings as well as the debut Top 5 based off the TTI
Division I TTI
1. Sidney (15-3) 1. Sidney (15-3)
2. Centerville (13-5) 2. Butler (16-2)
3. Springfield (11-7) 3. Centerville (13-5)
4. Fairmont (14-5) 4. Springfield (11-7)
5. Butler (16-2) 5. Wayne (10-8)
Springfield lost their first GWOC game last week as they fell 60-44 against a very good Centerville team. As a result, the Wildcats drop two spots down to #3 and Centerville jumps to #2 with the win. With Springfield’s loss, Sidney becomes the new #1 team as they are riding a 4-game winning streak. Fairmont has won back-to-back games after being dominated by Wayne 58-38 last Tuesday. The Firebirds have shown us they are still a top 5 team despite the loss. Butler drops to #5 even while riding a 6-game winning streak. However, only one of the six games was against a team above .500. In the TTI ranking, Sidney holds the #1 spot as they won the head-to-head matchup with Butler, Centerville comes in at #3 with some great victories against Fairmont and Springfield. Springfield sits at #4 after losing to Centerville last week. Wayne is the only different team and gain the #5 spot with a strong strength of schedule. Fairmont is sitting at #6 in the TTI rankings but are well behind the Warriors at #5.
Division II TTI
1. Trotwood-Madison (14-2) 1. Trotwood-Madison (14-2)
2. Chaminade-Julienne (16-2) 2. Chaminade-Julienne (16-2)
3. Fenwick (11-6) 3. Monroe (9-8)
4. Kenton Ridge (10-6) 4. Kenton Ridge (10-6)
5. Oakwood (9-8) 5. Oakwood (9-8)
The top 2 teams in both the Power Rankings and TTI rankings are the exact same. Trotwood continues their domination while C-J keeps the #2 spot after a 7-point loss against undefeated Moeller. In the Power Rankings, Fenwick jumps to #3 with an impressive victory against St. Xavier out of Cincinnati. Kenton Ridge is now the sole CBC team while Oakwood debuts as #5. The Lumberjacks get the edge over Benjamin Logan due to their higher ranking in the TTI. In the TTI, Monroe is the only different team at #3 due to their victories against Brookville and Franklin. Fenwick is at #6 in the TTI and very close to Oakwood.
Division III TTI
1. Anna (16-1) 1. Anna (16-1)
2. Stivers (13-3) 2. Twin Valley South (14-2)
3. Brookville (15-2) 3. Stivers (13-3)
4. Madison (16-2) 4. National Trail (16-2)
5. National Trail (16-2) 5. Madison (16-2)
Anna suffered their first loss of the season against Jackson Center 51-47, but still hold the #1 spot. Stivers stays at #2 as I give them the edge due to their much stronger strength of schedule and very quality losses, Brookville and Madison keep their spots at #3 and #4. National Trail comes in at #5 and edges out Twin Valley South due to their head-to-head victory. The TTI rankings give Twin Valley South a very high #2 spot, likely due to their .875 winning percentage. Stivers has lost to 3 quality teams and debut at #3. Brookville is left out of the TTI but are considered a Top 3 team in our opinion regardless. Madison’s loss against a talented Harvest Prep team is what gives them the edge over the Blue Devils.
Division IV TTI
1. Legacy Christian (16-3) 1. Fairbanks (15-2)
2. Springfield Catholic Central (14-2) 2. Springfield Catholic Central (14-2)
3. St. Henry (14-3) 3. Jackson Center (13-4)
4. Fairbanks (15-2) 4. Legacy Christian (16-3)
5. Jackson Center (13-4) 5. St. Henry (14-3)
The Power Rankings and TTI contain the same 5 teams, however I have Legacy Christian holding the #1 spot, despite losing 75-60 to Emmanuel Christian. Catholic Central has been winning at a high rate since losing back-to-back games in January. The rest of the rankings remain the same as last week. Fairbanks comes in at #1 in the TTI especially with victories against Springfield Catholic Central and West Jefferson and their high winning percentage. Catholic Central has several wins against D2 and D3 programs which allows them to hold the #2 spot. The race between the Irish, Jackson Center, and Legacy Christian is extremely tight in the TTI rankings as the 3 are all within 5 points of each other.
