Upsets
- Warsaw knocked off Elkhart Memorial. Memorial had been ranked a good chunk of the year and was stellar most of the season but Warsaw was able to beat them last night, 65-50 just 7 days after losing to them by 3. Warsaw will play Elkhart Central on Friday.
- Fort Wayne Northrop beat Fort Wayne Carroll last night. Carroll felt like the popular pick based on past success and how well they had been playing down the stretch but Northrop was able to beat by, 41-31. Northrop had lost to them by 13 earlier in February. Northrop will now play DeKalb on Friday night.
- Huntington North pulled a huge upset beating powerhouse Homestead, 48-34. It was a drubbing with senior Sawyer Stoltz leading the way with 20 points. Homestead had won this Sectional the last five years. Huntington North will now play Fort Wayne South on Friday.
- Kokomo beat Logansport last night, 62-54. They were able to keep it close and then pull away late. Logansport had been great all year long but was knocked out in the first round. Kokomo will now play McCutcheon on Friday.
- Plainfield beat Brownsburg, 46-43 after having made a close basket at the end of the game to take a late lead. This is a Plainfield team that had been pretty good all year but lost by 20+ twice to Brownsburg already. Third time was the charm as they move on to face Avon on Friday night.
- Castle got upset on Tuesday night with a huge come-from-behind win by Evansville Central, 64-62. Evansville Central is a team below .500 and had only won one of their last five games heading into this game. They will now play Evansville Reitz on Friday.
- Hammond pulled the upset on Griffith on Tuesday. Griffith was 18-5 heading into the game and looked like a sneaky team that could make a Semistate run. However, they are done now as Hammond moves on, 76-69. They will play Hammond Clark on Friday.
- NorthWood pulled a nice upset of Fairfield on Tuesday. NorthWood has been the perennial powerhouse in this Sectional but this was a down year for them with a 9-12 record heading into it and Fairfield was the strongest team. NorthWood now gets a chance at another Sectional Championship as they take on Tippecanoe Valley on Friday.
- Evansville Bosse got things started off well upsetting highly ranked Heritage Hills. They went ahead early and had to hold them off the whole game. Bosse has gotten better over the course of the season and now will play Evansville Memorial on Friday night.
- Madison-Grant pulled off a big win over Tipton, 51-48. This is an upset as Tipton had been playing well all year and just finished off Lapel before heading into the tournament. Madison-Grant had played really well against the best teams on their schedule so they were capable. Madison-Grant will now play Eastbrook on Friday.
- Randolph Southern played spoiler on Tuesday night upsetting Seton Catholic in the first round, 60-57. They lost to Seton by 19 points earlier in the year although they have been playing well down the stretch winning 5 of their last 6 games. They will now play Union (Modoc) on Friday.
Notable Results
- Chesterton was able to hold off Portage last night after they were down early. Junior wing Jake Wadding exploded for 26 points and 16 rebounds in the win and taking control of the game in the second half. Chesterton will now play Michigan City on Friday night.
- Hamilton Southeastern had to battle to get past Westfield on Tuesday. They went to double overtime to get it done and for most of the game Westfield looked like the better team. Hamilton Southeastern will now play Noblesville on Friday night.
- Penn beat South Bend Riley again last night by just two points. It was a low scoring battle that had Riley in the lead most of the game. Shots weren’t falling but Penn was able to get some key buckets in a short stretch late that helped give them a cushion to hold on. They will now play LaPorte on Friday.
- Lawrence North pulled off a big win over Cathedral. Lawrence North had been playing really well at the end of the year and despite a spectacular performance from Armaan Franklin and Cathedral, LN was able to get the win, 65-59. Lawrence North will play Warren Central on Friday.
- Center Grove, for the second time this year, struggled with Greenwood. They couldn’t score the ball and just squeaked by in the second half with a 32-22 victory. They will play Franklin Central on Friday.
- Shelbyville beat Columbus North on Tuesday night, 57-54. Shelbyville has kind of been spinning their tires all year long and haven’t been able to get going. This win will now pit them against East Central with a legit chance to make it to Saturday.
- North Posey got a win over Tecumseh on Tuesday night. Not really an upset but a significant win after North Posey struggled for much of the season. Their last two games they have had to fight and pull off overtime wins. They will now look to play a very difficult Tell City team on Friday night. Can they play that hard one more time?
- Morristown, the defending 1A State Champion, was taken to the max as they were down late to Rising Sun before getting a bucket from Logan Laster with about 11 seconds to go. This was an escape that now sets them up to play Southwestern (Shelbyville) on Friday.
