With the home stretch of the regular season on the horizon, let’s take a look at the 15th- through 20th-leading steals men in Colorado’s Class 3A.
15. Turner Kennedy, 6-1, SG/PG, Bayfield, 2019, 3.1 spg
Pretty lengthy for a 6-foot-1 guard, Kennedy uses that length effectively to grab 3.1 steals and 5.4 rebounds a game. With Kennedy’s ability to handle the ball and push the pace, both of those things frequently turn into points for his team. The senior guard also leads the Wolverines with 16.9 points a night.
16. Mason Robertson, 5-10, G, Englewood, 2020, 3.1 spg
A big-time glue guy for his team, it’s a rare occasion when Robertson attempts more than four or five shots in a game. Instead, the junior spends most of his time doing all the other stuff. He averages 3.1 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 3.1 steals.
17. Alex Barron, 6-2, G, Cedaredge, 2021, 3.1 spg
The Bruins have an up-and-comer with solid potential in this sophomore, who is currently averaging 3.1 steals a night. Barron is also a three-sport athlete – football, basketball and track – so it remains to be seen what direction he will choose. However, already averaging 3.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds as a 6-foot-2 10th-grader, he could turn into a force on the hardwood if his scoring ticks up.
18. Rylan Aikens, 5-11, G, Frontier Academy, 2019, 3.1 spg
The Wolverines currently sit right on the .500 mark for the season with a 9-9 record, and Aikens is one of four double-digit scoring seniors – Robert Noffsinger (12.9 ppg), Lukas Bowles (12.2), Collin Channell (11.9) and Aikens (11.2) – that have helped them get there. Aikens, however, also leads his team with 3.1 steals and 7.1 rebounds a night.
19. Kolby Walker, 6-0, G, Colorado Springs Christian, 2019, 3.1 spg
Walker is having a heck of a senior season and has appeared on several of these lists as a top producer in many ways. He’s currently averaging 16.7 points, 3.6 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 3.1 steals while shooting 46 percent from the field. Oh, and the Lions are 15-3 as a result.
20. Elian Soto, 5-11, SG/PG, Jefferson Academy, 2020, 2.9 spg
The junior guard has been pouring in the points to the tune of 18.4 per night, but he hasn’t neglected his responsibilities at the defensive end of the floor either. Through 18 games, he’s averaging 2.9 steals and is also grabbing 2.5 rebounds.
