With the home stretch of the regular season on the horizon, let’s take a look at the sixth- through 10th-leading steals men in Colorado’s Class 3A.
6. Elijah Jones, 5-9, G, Sheridan, 2020, 4.4 spg
Heading off the second section of our list, Jones is sixth in Class 3A with 4.4 steals per night. The junior is also third in the classification in scoring, averaging 23.5 points. That combination makes for a valuable two-way player who still has one year of high school basketball to go after this one.
7. Davion Davis, 5-9, PG/SG, Manual, 2019, 4.3 spg
The starting point guard for the surging Manual boys, Davis is a bit undersized but it doesn’t show in the way he plays. The Thunderbolts are ranked No. 2 in Class 3A and their lightning-quick point man is averaging 10.3 points, 6.1 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 4.3 steals.
8. Emilio Garcia, 5-8, PG/SG, Grand Valley, 2022, 4.1 spg
This kid is off to a solid start to his prep basketball career. With 16 high school games under his belt, he’s averaging 8.4 points per night including a season-high 20 points against Coal Ridge on Jan. 25. Also dishing out 3.4 assists per game, he really excels as an opportunistic defender and is already showing some projectable potential is he continues to grow.
9. Alex Mushkin, 5-10, G, Colorado Academy, 2019, 3.6 spg
Mushkin is all over the stat sheet just about every time Colorado Academy plays a game. With the 2019 postseason on the horizon, he averages 16.2 points, 4.8 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 3.6 steals.
10. Elijah Thatch, 6-1, G, DSST: Byers, 2020, 3.5 spg
Rebounding at 6.7-per-game clip, Thatch often outplays his size and is a solid passer. He has score the ball from all over the floor – averaging 18.7 points per game – and doesn’t take plays off on defense, where he uses his quick hands and feel for getting into passing lanes to create turnovers.
