With the home stretch of the regular season on the horizon, let’s take a look at the leading steals men in Colorado’s Class 3A.
1. Amerie Collins, 5-9, G, Bruce Randolph, 2019, 6.7 spg
Collins’ numbers to this point of his senior season certainly are eye-popping. Through 17 games, he’s averaging 12.3 points, 6.6 assists, 7.1 rebounds and 6.7 steals. Against Arrupe Jesuit on Jan. 29, he missed a quadruple-double by four points with this line: six points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 14 steals.
2. Isaac Gallegos, 5-9, PG, The Academy, 2019, 5.1 spg
While he’s been scoring a ton, Gallegos (19.3 ppg) has also been crushing it at the defensive end of the floor. Through 16 games, he’s averaging 5.1 steals a night. The Wildcats certainly are getting a lot of multi-faceted production from their 5-foot-9 points guard in 2018-19.
3. Nathaniel Plaisted, 5-8, G, James Irwin, 2019, 5.0 spg
Plaisted (22.1 ppg) is the fifth-leading scorer in 3A but that’s not all. He also averages 4.1 assists and 5.9 rebounds to go with his five steals per night.
4. Robert Roseberry, 5-9, G, Bruce Randolph, 2019, 4.9 spg
That’s right, a second Bruce Randolph player in the top four on this list. Like Collins above, Rosenberry is contributing to the Grizzlies’ efforts in a number of ways with 13.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.9 steals.
5. Irving Peraza, 5-10, G, Estes Park, 2019, 4.6 spg
Shooting 33 percent from 3-point range this winter, Peraza does as much to keep points off the board as he does to put them up. He’s scoring 13.7 points but also averages 4.6 steals and 4.1 rebounds a night.
