Here’s a look at some of the Class of 2022 standouts to watch these next few weeks.
Lamar Washington, Jefferson
Of all the freshman in the state who have seen varsity time, Washington may have seen the most – and it’s for one of the top teams in the state. The burly 6-foot-3 wing has already shown that he can shoot, score, and finish, and he may very well be the #1 ranked player in the PrepHoops Class of 2022 rankings.
Trejon Williams, Jefferson
He missed a chunk of the first part of the season due to a concussion but the 6-foot point guard is now getting major minutes for the Democrats. Williams is a bulldog attacking the basket and in addition to knocking down the pull-up jumper, can really get into the grill of opponents on defense.
Max von Arx, Grant
With Grant in need of size, the 6-foot-4 (and still growing) freshman has stepped into the starting lineup and has done an admirable job. von Arx has scored around the basket and has played good team basketball in support of the Generals high-powered guards.
Jordan King, Central Catholic
Central Catholic is filled with young talent and of the talented freshman on the roster, King has gotten the most time. Already blessed with a mature body, the 6-foot-3 wing has been able to come in and provide some spot-up shooting off the bench.
Mason VanBeenen, West Linn
VanBeenen has gotten more time as the season has gone along, especially this latter half as some Lions have been missing from the lineup for a variety of reasons. At 6-foot-8 and projected to grow 2-3 more inches, VanBeenen is very lean but is skilled and has a nice shot from the perimeter.
Dallon Morgan, Sprague
The Olympians are bringing Morgan along slowly but the 6-foot-7 (and still-growing) post has been getting some time off of the bench. He runs the floor well, has shown the propensity to be solid on the boards, and has a nice touch on his face-up shot.
Samaje Morgan, Churchill
He may be small but the 5-foot-8 Morgan has plenty of ability and has gotten more and more playing time for the #1 ranked 5A team as the season has gone along. He’s plenty quick and has been able to use that to his advantage on both sides of the floor coming off of the bench for the Lancers.
Jordan McCarty, Silverton
The son of head coach Jamie McCarty, Jordan McCarty is a point guard who has already started getting some significant playing time for the Silver Foxes. His ability to manage the game helps give starters David Gonzales and Jonah Downey some rest.
Andre Combs, Clatskanie
The 5-foot-11 guard can score the ball and already as a freshman has established himself as one of not only the team’s but the league’s best players.
Other freshmen to watch from prospective post-season teams:
Huxley Martin, Benson
Aidan Slater, Central Catholic
Luke Johnson, Central Catholic
Dondrae Fair, Grant
Jae’Sean Pate, Grant
Donatello Tupper, Roosevelt
Zeke Viuhkola, West Linn
Keshav Anand, Westview
