Thankfully, we were able to keep up with them for you and have put together a Class 6A Area 11-16 tournament recap, featuring every game and the top performers from the majority of those games.
Area 11
Semifinal #1: Gardendale vs. P.D. Jackson-Olin: 63-50
After beating P.D. Jackson-Olin in the regular season both times that they met, Gardendale had no issues taking care of them a third time. The Rockets outscored the Mustangs by 13 points to advance to the Area 11 Championship game. Clayton Cunningham led the way for Gardendale with 12 points and Nathan Burrow and Shamarius Cook both added 9 points.
Semifinal #2: Carver vs. Minor: 56-48
After splitting in their regular season matchups, it is no surprise that this was a close game. However, the Rams got the best of the Tigers and were able to walk away with the 8 point victory and propel themselves into the Area 11 Championship game.
Finals: Gardendale vs. Carver: 54-53
After single-digit defeats both times that they met in the regular season, Carver was looking to avenge their heartbreaking losses. Unfortunately for them, that was not the case Thursday night and they lost by 1 point to Gardendale who took home the Area 11 Championship. Shamarius Cook led the way for the Rockets with 18 points and Clayton Cunningham added 9 points. Ka’Veyon Moore had an impressive 27 points Rams.

-Gardendale will play McAdory in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Gardendale High School.
Carver will play Bessemer City in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Bessemer City High School.
Area 12
Semifinals: Pell City vs. Clay-Chalkville: 68-41
Without much effort, Clay-Chalkville was able to take down Pell City on Tuesday night. The Cougars finished with a 27 point victory and advanced to the Area 12 Championship game. Dayon Bryant led the way for Clay-Chalkville with 18 points and Jake McDaniel added 14 points to his teams total.
Finals: Pinson Valley vs. Clay-Chalkville: 73-57
After beating Clay-Chalkville in the regular season both times that they met, Pinson Valley was able to win a third time. The Indians ended up with a 16 point victory and went home with the Area 12 Championship. Kam Woods was the high scorer for Pinson Valley with 24 points.
Area Champion: Pinson Valley

-Pinson Valley will play Homewood in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Pinson Valley High School.
Clay-Chalkville will play Huffman in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Huffman High School.
Area 13
Semifinals: Fort Payne vs. Albertville: 89-67
Albertville beat Fort Payne in both of their regular season meetings, and they beat them in their area tournament meeting. Albertville walked away from the third meeting with a pretty big victory and advanced to the Area 11 Championship game. Ben Allen was the leading scorer for Albertville with 15 points. Keyshawn Hightower led the way for Fort Payne with 20 points.
Finals: Oxford vs. Albertville: 62-58
After a close game, Oxford escaped with the win on their home court, to beat Albertville by 4 points. This is the third time Oxford has beaten Albertville this season and it gave them the Area 13 Championship. Eugene Leonard was the top scorer for the Yellow Jackets with 17 points. Zondric Garrett added 13 points to his teams total. Dave Harding led the way for the Aggies, with 22 points. Brodie Canterberry also had a nice game with 20 points.
Area Champion: Oxford

-Oxford will play Buckhorn in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Oxford High School.
-Albertville will play Lee-Huntsville in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Lee-Huntsville High School.
Area 14
Semifinals: Decatur vs. Cullman: 50-40
In the regular season, both teams beat each other at home by a pretty good margin, so no one really knew how this game was going to go. It turned out to be a close one, but Decatur was able to edge Cullman by 10 points to advance to the Area 14 Championship game. Kenneth Sanders led the way for the Red Raiders with 15 points.
Finals: Hartselle vs. Decatur: 72-66
After losing two close games to Hartselle in the regular season, Decatur was looking for a chance to avenge their previous meetings. However, Hartselle played well enough to escape with a 6 point victory and claim the Area 14 Championship. Brody Peebles led the way for the Tigers with 29 points. Kaden Rosencrance put up 20 points for the Red Raiders.

-Hartselle will play Columbia in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Hartselle High School.
-Decatur will play Muscle Shoals in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Muscle Shoals High School.
Area 15
Semifinals: Athens vs. Muscle Shoals: 72-54
The Golden Eagles have struggled this season, going winless in area play. They were matched up against a very good Muscle Shoals team, who was able to take the victory by nearly 20 points and advance to the Area 15 Championship game. Marcus Sears led the way for Muscle Shoals, with 19 points. Nick Griffith and Ty Smith also had a solid game, each scoring 16 points. For Athens, J.D. Matthews was the leading scorer with 11 points.
Finals: Columbia vs. Muscle Shoals: 67-63
This matchup saw the #1 team in the state, Columbia, facing off against the #6 team in the state, Muscle Shoals. In their two meetings during the regular season, both were close games and each team walked away with one win. During the area tournament, it took overtime to decide a winner, but Muscle Shoals ended up upsetting the #1 team by 4 points and took home the Area 15 Championship. Marcus Sears was the leading scorer for the Trojans, with 23 points. Mickey McIntosh was able to add 16 points to his teams total as well. For the Eagles, Jamiah Holloway led the way with 13 points.
Area Champion: Muscle Shoals

-Muscle Shoals will play Decatur in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Muscle Shoals High School.
-Columbia will play Hartselle in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Hartselle High School.
Area 16
Semifinal #1: Lee-Huntsville vs. Hazel Green: 44-43
In possibly the best game during semifinal play of all the area tournaments, a 3-27 Hazel Green came 1 point shy of upsetting the #2 team in Class 6A. A dunk by Kobe Brown with 14 seconds left, gave the Generals the 1 point advantage that they needed to move on to the Area 16 Championship game. Kobe Brown led the way for Lee-Huntsville with 30 points.
Semifinal #2: Buckhorn vs. Mae Jemison: 61-54
A very good, but unranked Buckhorn team stunned fans on Tuesday night when they upset #3 Mae Jemison. After losing to the Jaguars twice in the regular season, many didn’t expect very much from the Bucks. However, they played a great game and took a 7 point win over Mae Jemison to advance to the Area 16 Championship game. Kuran Garner put up 22 points for the Bucks, 11 of which came in the 4th quarter. Brandon Davis also added 14 points and 6 rebounds for his team in their upset Tuesday night.
Finals: Lee-Huntsville vs. Buckhorn: 44-42
After a tournament that was filled with surprises, no one really knew what to expect from the championship game Friday night. It ended up being a close game that wasn’t decided until the very end. With 6 seconds left to play in a tie ball game, Kobe Brown knocked down a 2 point jumper to seal the victory and give his team the Area 16 Championship game. Kobe Brown was the top performer for the Generals with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Area Champion: Lee-Huntsville
