Class 1A State Tournament Preview
Crossroad vs. Central Florida Christian (2 p.m. ET, Monday)
A season ago Crossroad slipped up against eventual 2018 state runner-up Impact Christian in the region final. However, the Scorpions got the best of Impact Christian, 52-51 in the region final on Tuesday night. 2020 starters Paul Matthews and Jalan Black and 2019 forward Dedric Streeter have carried the way for Crossroad (21-8). For Central Florida Christian, this is the second consecutive state Final Four appearance. The Eagles lost to eventual champion Miami Christian in the state semifinal last year. 2019 Bethune Cookman signee Jordan Preaster, 2019 guard Bryce Street and 2019 forward Anterrius Washington are all legitimate threats.
North Florida Educational vs. Schoolhouse Prep (4 p.m. ET, Monday)
Schoolhouse Prep is in Lakeland for its first-ever state tournament after knocking off two-time defending champion Miami Christian on Tuesday, 69-59. The Wolfpack (19-9) have plenty of size and discipline behind 2020 big man Ange Dibwa, 2020 forward Carl Bigord and 2019 guard Jose Luis-Benitez. North Florida Educational (13-13) will appear in its second state tournament in a row after beating Calvary Christian 54-34. The Eagles lost to Impact Christian in last year’s state semifinal. 2020 big man Deangelo Elisee, 2019 guard Kenneth Johnson and 2021 guard pair Jashawne Josephs and Saevion Brown give NFEI a lot to work with.
Predicted state champion
Schoolhouse Prep
I know this is the Wolfpack’s first state tournament in school history but I have a feeling that the 2A champion will come out of the game between North Florida Educational and Schoolhouse Prep. North Florida Educational has size, speed and experience. But Schoolhouse Prep intrigues me. The Wolfpack knocked off a tough Miami Christian group in both the district championship and the region final. That is not easy. Plus Schoolhouse Prep lost by only nine to University School on the road and beat some tough Miami area teams who played in the regional round including 9A Pembroke Pines and 5A Florida State High.
