Continue ReadingChristian Fortner is an interesting 2019 prospect. His recruitment has been slow, you probably don’t know much about him, but there is no doubt that the 2 sport stud can hoop. The 6’5 forward did it all for Thorsby throughout his career, including leading them to the State tournament this season. This season, Christian averaged 24.8 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists on the offensive end. He also was 231/379 (61%) from the field, and Fortner shot 54/139 (39%) from three. His assist to turnover ratio was 2:1. Defensively, Fortner was good for 2.2 steals, 5.7 blocks per game, and the kid avoided foul trouble (2 per game).
Strengths: Fortner is an efficient scorer from inside/out. He makes a high percentage of shots. Has range out to the 3 point line (39%). Adequate passer. Great rebounder. Makes the right plays. Long armed. Plays with a high IQ. Excellent shot blocker and help side defender. Avoids fouling. Can play multiple positions.
Weaknesses: Not an explosive athlete. Not a fluid athlete (Looks choppy/awkward at times). Slender frame. Average handle. Did not play against top level competition. Can he guard perimeter players at a high level? Small for a 4.
Evaluation: Christian is a competitor and can play both forward positions. He doesn’t try to do too much or do what he is not comfortable with. He is efficient and makes shots. Christian is an excellent help side defender and excellent rebounder. This is a kid that will make anyone’s roster better. D3, NAIA, USCAA, NCCAA, and JUCO Prospect.
