Over the next two day we take a look at quite of few brackets on each level and highlight some players and games that could be interesting for fans of the game as well as college coaches.
Weldon vs Northside Pinetown: The matchup in this game to watch will be at the guard and wing spots, Northside Pinetown features 2020 PG Rashod Smith who is averaging 27 Points and 7 Assist on the season. He is a quick and crafty player that has a nice feel for the game and good vision, although he is shorter in height, he a big time game and is a huge part of the team success. Weldon HS features 2020 G/F Jalen Lynch is a player that has been playing at a very high level this season, he is averaging 17 points, 6 assist and 6 rebounds per game so as you can see he impacts the game from all over the floor.
Granville Central vs East Columbus: Granville Central comes in as the higher seed but East Columbus is no slouch team. They feature a Guard in Senior Donavan Worley who can lead a team by making the right plays and an inside presence in Junior Forward C.J Freeman at 6’6. Granville Central features the super sophomore guard Terrance Harcum, who has been putting up major numbers in his first two seasons, already passing the 1,000 point mark.
Riverside vs South Robeson: With Riverside losing some veterans due to graduation we knew it would be a bit of a learning year for some of the young players on the squad. One of the top young players went down with a season ending injury but the squad has continued to fight winning 4 of their last 6 games in the regular season. Senior Ashaun Belcher is one to keep an eye on for them as he is averaging 15 points and 7 Rebounds per game. South Robeson has some solid Guard play in Senior Guard Kylerr Page and Sophomore Guard Syncere Southern but one of the main keys to their success is Unsigned Senior big man Cameron Werrell who has been putting up some big time scoring and rebounding numbers this season.
West Columbus vs East Carteret: West Columbus has been working in silence but getting plenty of wins this year as they hold a record of 21-4. Sophomore Forward Brandis Kelly has been a consistent bright spot for them as he is averaging 12 Points and 12 Rebounds per game. East Carteret has a gifted sophomore of their own in Guard Bennie Brooks who recently took an unofficial to High Point University, Brooks has put together quite a few 30+ point and double digit rebounding games this season.
Lejeune vs Henderson Collegiate: Henderson Collegiate is a team that has a legit chance of winning a state championship this year. They have numerous players that can impact the game so it would take all day to highlight each player, however one we know very well is Junior Guard Kalib Matthews who is dropping 13 Points and pulling down 7 Rebounds for the squad. Lejeune HS features 2020 Guard Malachi Borders who can knock down shots at a high level and is constantly in double figures for his squad.
More Players to Watch
Northwest Halifax Senior Forward Toyaz Solomon: At 12 Points and 10 Rebounds a night, his numbers wont scream at you but he has plenty of upside and potential as a prospect. He’s a legit 6’7 with a long wingspan and versatility which allows coaches to be able to play him on the wing some offensively and defensively.
Rocky Mount Prep Senior Guard Sam Benton: He’s been putting up monster numbers this year and understand how to use his speed to blow past defenders. His team is the underdog in the first round so another big night will be needed if they wish to advance.
