This year, the Coastal League prevailed 4-2. The surprise of the day came from San Diego – a team in neither league – beating La Jolla Country Day 68-42.
Our Battle at the Bay coverage continues with the second part of our sophomore standouts.
Battle at the Bay – 2021 Standouts, Part 2
Bennett Walker, 6-0 G, Patrick Henry
Walker has nice quickness off the bounce and a scorer’s mentality. As he learns to play with better pace and shot selection, he’ll continue his emergence.
Baron Bracey, 6-0 G, Patrick Henry
I really liked Bracey’s hard-nosed approach on the defensive side of the ball, as well as his ability to draw contact and get to the foul line. He’ll need to improve his shooting moving forward.
Owen Hill, 6-3 W, Bishop’s
Hill complements Bishop’s standouts Christian Rose and Zach White well because of his ability to shoot the corner three. Hill continues to improve his lateral quickness and defense, but must continue to keep growing in both areas.
Christian Gamboa, 6-3 W, La Jolla
Gamboa has the length and look of a high level prospect, and shows flashes of it at times. The streaky shooter must become more assertive to make the next leap forward.
Shaun Jackson, 6-3 W, Serra
An intriguing lefty prospect, Jackson has a solid frame, length and can score off the drive. He also rebounds the ball aggressively for the undersized Q’s. His ball skills are quite raw, but he’s got a ton of upside and time to grow.
Isaiah Saiz, 5-10 PG, Serra
A recent transfer from Hawaii, Saiz plays with excellent pace and is an unselfish playmaker for others. I love the fact that he never really gets sped up and always seems to make the right basketball decision.
