In each classification, four teams remain with each vying for a championship plaque to take home to their school. Below is a recap of the 2A Boys Semi-Finals.
Semi-Final #1: Tanner 58 vs. Central-Coosa 68
It was a battle of two excellent teams in the first 2A semi-final. The Central-Coosa defense was harassing forcing 26 turnovers, but Tanner never gave up. They closed the massive lead to 5 points with 49 seconds to go, but it was too little, too late. The game was also won at the freethrow line. Central-Coosa made 24-28 free throws compared to the horrific 9-21 for Tanner.
For Central-Coosa, Noel Jonesled the way with 20 points and 7 rebounds. His teammate, Joshua McGheeposted a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. For Tanner, Nathan Montgomerywas the high scorer with 19 points. His teammate James Atkins, was also a monster on the glass with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Central-Coosa will now look to take down the red-hot and the always-a-threat Sacred Heart Cardinals.
Semi-Final #2: Sacred Heart 75 vs. Calhoun 65
Sacred Heart is on the verge of winning 5 straight state championships. Several big coaches were in the stands scouting the two stars of the game: Jayden Stone from Sacred Heart and Jerdarrian Davisonfrom Calhoun. Stone finished with 21 points and Davison finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams shot the ball well the entire game. For Sacred Heart, Caleb Brownled the way with 22 points.
Calhoun sure missed the star presence of Jakobe Miles, their leading rebounder. He only played 17 minutes off the bench due to an ankle injury and was all but ineffective. He sure would have helped to defend against the constant onslaught led by the Cardinals from Sacred Heart. Now the only thing between Sacred Heart and another trophy is Central Coosa on Thursday, February 28.
