Today we go baseline to baseline with one of the top shooters in the class of 2021 from the Greater Houston area. We will break down his strengths and weakness. Glance at the outlook of his future in basketball. Let me introduce to you Jacob Harvey 5’11 Point Guard of Hargrave High School (Huffman,TX).
Jacob is a quick guard who specialty is knocking down the long ball. He also attacks his man on the dribble. Moves great without the ball. Get’s in the mix of things and gets scrappy. Doesn’t turn the ball over a lot. Has improved his play-making abilities a lot. Has good lateral movement. He is still a young prospect. Has the tendencies to get caught up in screens.
Jacob is having a great sophomore campaign. He is averaging 22.8 points per game. Shooting 44% from behind the arc. Leads the team in three pointers made also. This is his second year playing varsity. Huffman Hargrave High School is 31-5 overall on the season. They are currently ranked 24th in Class 4A. They have just advanced to the quarters of the UIL 4A playoffs. Which is the round of 32 teams left fighting for a state championship.
I was able to catch up with Jacob at the Houston TopGuns tryouts. Jacob how are you feeling about the season? We are doing really well posted a 29-5 regular season record, which is the best in school history. We went undefeated in district play also. We are looking to keep it rolling into the playoffs. Since you brought up playoffs. What are the expectations for the Falcons as you enter post season play? Last year we had a solid season but loss in the first round. This year we’re looking to go pretty far in the playoffs. Our hopes are to get back to the third round like we did a few years ago. I feel if we can slow down teams like Yates and Silsbee that we have a chance. It’s a tough task but we are ready for it. How is your recruitment looking right now? I have been talking to a couple of college coaches but no offers at this time. I’ve talked with U of H, Utah State, and North Texas. What areas in your game have you improved the most from last season to this season? I can get in the paint a lot easier than i could last year. I’m controlling the flow of the game way better. My three point shot has also improved better than it was. I would like to become a point guard who leads his team in every aspect of the game.
I want to wish Jacob and the Hargrave Falcons a successful run in the playoffs. They have already overcame last season obstacle of a first round exit. Also wish Jacob a successful spring/summer with the Houston TopGuns. Here is a video of Jacob last year playing up for the TopGuns 16U team.
