Today we go baseline to baseline with the biggest Greater Houston high school prospect. We will break down his strengths and weakness. Glance at the outlook of his future in basketball. Let me introduce to you Eddie Lampkin 6’10 250 lbs C class of 2020 Morton Ranch High School (Katy,TX) a UIL 6A-19 school.
Eddie has great footwork in the high post and the low post. Exceptional offensive awareness. Finds his teammates with great passes out of the high post. Sets solid on ball screens. Moves great for his size. Gets up and down the floor. He is a force in the paint, as well as on the glass. He alters shots and is a super vocal floor leader. Eddie needs to improve his lateral movement, and his timing on blocking shots also. He has improved his free throw shooting but still needs work there also.
Eddie is averaging 14.1 points per game, 10.2 rebounds per game, 2.4 assist per game, and 1 block per game. He is shooting 60% from the field and has recorded 19 double-doubles on the season. Morton ranch Mavericks are currently 26-6 overall and went 12-0 in their district. This season was the first year that the school has won a district title. The playoffs begin for them on Feb 18, 2019 as they play against Fort Bend Ridge Point (23-11) at the Don Coleman Community Coliseum. Last year Eddie averaged 10.6 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game. The Mavericks also went 24-10 last season and lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
I was able to catch up with Eddie at the Houston Defenders Tryouts.
Eddie talk a little bit about how the season has been going for you and your team. It’s been going good. we are undefeated in district and on a 10 game winning streak right now. We are meshing well as a team and depend on one another. Explain how your game has progressed from last season to this season. I have became a better rebounder. I can score the ball better at the rim on both left and right sides of the basket. Eddie you have good IQ for a big. Where does that IQ come from? It came from when I use to play football and having to be aware of everything around you. Can you talk about how recruitment is going for you right now? I have 13 offers and a ton of schools interested in me. Can you name just a couple of your favorite schools in this recruitment process? This is not a top list or in any order. I really like Oklahoma, TCU, Georgetown, LSU, Baylor, and Texas A&M. Have you took any visits yet? I’ve took some unofficial visits. I haven’t took an official visit yet, but I will take some this spring. It’s playoffs time. I know a lot of people have you guys as favorites and people are applying pressure. How do you handle all of that? I can say at the beginning of our season a lot of players tried to play to the hype. Now we aren’t worried about rankings or what people are expecting us to do. We have our own goals in which we are taking a game at a time. We will leave it all on the court.
I would like to thank Eddie for the interview. I also wish him and his teammates a great run towards the state title. For any recruitment questions about Eddie please contact me or one of the Prep Hoops Texas staff members. Here is a full highlight game with Eddie click the link below.
