Andre Sepeda – Greeley West
Sepeda is one of the state’s most explosive guards with the ability to do it all. He can shoot it off of the dribble, is a knock down shooter that cannot be left open and he is also one of the region’s best passers. He can get his shot off from anywhere with deep range and also finishes around the rim with either hand but has a silky left-hand stroke. He has led Greeley West to an impressive 17-6 record and is at 17 points a game to lead the team. He also plays the passing lanes well and is a solid on-ball defender as he is at 2.3 steals a game. Greeley West opens up with a matchup against Cherokee Trails who struggled mightily this season so expect them to get Sepeda going early to go into next round with his confidence at a high.
Quinten Rock – Smoky Hill
Rock is one of those guards that you are shocked is only a junior, he has been on varsity and bringing it for three straight years and what you get from him is consistency. What’s best about his game is he has evolved with time as far as he is a true point guard that keeps the team together while getting his own. He is at 14.6 points a game as he is going to punish the defender with moves to free himself and either finish it at the rim or set up a teammate which usually ends up as an open basket. He is at 7.6 assists a game which is second best in the entire state but he can also shoot the open shot at a high rate and is not a player that you can leave open. Expect Rock to dominate this tourney and prove his spot as a top three guard in the entire state. I expect this playoff run to be his best one yet.
Jamil Safeiddine – Regis
Saffiedine is a guard that just moves over from being an off-ball guard to now being ball dominant and running the show. He has had some growing pains early but has now gotten into a zone and Regis is starting to blossom as a result. Regis has become one of the hottest teams in the state as they are so unorthodox and long and with Saffiedine at point guard it only adds to the length as he has great size and can see over most defenders. His shooting has dropped tremendously this year but that could be a result of not having the ball every possession. He runs the offense, is thorough in how he observes the court and is a mismatch from within with great finishing around the basket. He is at 12.3 points and 3.7 assists a game but when he gets everyone involved the Raiders seem to be at their best.
Sean Bohuslavsky – Liberty
Is a guard that can get it going and you can see his maturity in the way that he plays the game. He is battle tested and despite being the player that opposing teams try and slow down gets his every single night, He is up to 17.6 points a game and scores in a variety of ways for such a smaller frame. He gets inside and interrupts defenses with his willingness to finish it either with the floater, at the rim or through contact and gets to the free throw line plenty. He is not afraid to shoot it and he goes at each defender with his aggressive ways. He can drop it off to the open man or get any shot off and is one of the best players in the region at creating his own. Expect a big score from him against Rocky Mountain.
TJ Boykins – Douglas County
Boykins is a senior guard that is enjoying his best season yet and the team is winning as a result. HE is a true point guard with a lightning quick first step that makes it easy to get past any defender. When he is finishing at the rim, Douglas County is dangerous. Boykins is averaging 14.7 points a game but he is making sure to get everyone involved which has created spacing for himself and teammates at 5.5 assists a game. He has made mid-season progressions as the game seems to be slowing down for him and it has translated to wins. The Huskies have a first-round game against Far Northeast Warriors and it will be a good guard battle where Boykins will have to force his will against a stingy group that bottles things up on the perimeter so a good game from him is the difference between a win and a loss.
