Here are three player match-ups to watch in this round:
McClintock: Josh Baker vs. Centennial: JoJo Rincon
Baker leads the Chargers to the best team they have had in a few years. He can score from everywhere, especially from behind the arc. He leads an offense full of quality seniors who are hungry to win a title. JoJo Rincon does not score at the same rate as Baker, averaging 9.1 points. But, he leads the team in assists and steals. He played a massive role in getting the team into the round of 16.
Williams Field: Camden Plewe vs. Paradise Valley: Nathan Perry
Camden Plewe might be the most fun passer in the state, regardless of class. He makes getting the ball to teammates for scoring look easy. Expect him to have a couple highlight assists in this game, if Nathan Perry doesn’t stop him. The Trojans do not have a particularly-dominant scorer, which puts more need for starting the offense on Perry. He scores 15 per game, but also gets the offense running with good passes, especially as defenses have to pressure him extra.
Gilbert: Doc Self vs. Mountain View Marana: Julian Molina
Molina is the top scorer for the Mountain Lions, who need a miracle to knock off the No. 1 seed. He is a good scorer for a guard, who can also make plays for teammates, especially after he starts scoring himself and the defense has to lock up on him. Senior Doc Self starts the offense for the Tigers, who have yet to lose in 5A play. He makes a lot of assists, especially to forward Carson Towt, to score nearly at will.
