Continue ReadingPoint guards are floor generals and leaders of their teams. The 2019 class has a solid crop of point guards that have been playing extremely well. The 2019 has a mixture of styles at the point guard position. This article features 5 point guards that have yet to sign/commit.
Cameron Tucker (Wenonah): Tucker is a point guard who can do it all. He has the ability to score at all 3 levels. He’s very good off the bounce in iso situations. Cam can make plays for others, and he is very good in pick/roll situations. One of his underrated abilities is his rebounding, because Tucker is not afraid to mix it up and go after the ball. On the season, Cam has averaged close to 18-5-5 and is a LM level prospect.
JP Robinson (Deshler): JP is one of the most improved players in the class and has competed with a chip on his shoulder all season. Robinson is 5’10-5’11 and electric with the basketball. Robinson is a scoring point guard with playmaking ability. He is averaging 24-6-5 on the season. Don’t let his stature fool you on the defensive end, because JP has quick hands and very good help side awareness. Robinson’s recruiting has primarily been D2 and Juco with some D1 interest, but the team that signs the kid will get someone ready to play.
BJ Comer (PCA): Comer is a 6’2-6’3 scoring point guard. He competes really hard every night. BJ can score at all 3 levels. He is averaging 18-4-5 per game. Comer is shooting 38% from 3, which opens up his ability to attack the rim and make plays off the bounce. His recruitment has been all over the map, and there are coaches surprised at the low D1 interest he has received. BJ is a player that can provide teams with offensive punch and competitive energy.
CJ Smith (Calera): Smith is a point guard will a lot of potential. He’s a solid on ball defender and has really good timing in the passing lanes. He’s worked hard to improve his offensive shooting, but CJ is at his best attacking the rim. Smith is a recruit that D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO coaches should be in contact with. He has good size for the position at 6’1 and is a team first guy.
Dee Pearson (Gasden City): Pearson is one of the best playmakers and defenders in the state. With his size (6’2) and ability, Pearson is a fun one to watch night in and night out. He rebounds well at the position and cares more about setting his teammates up. Offensively, Pearson has the ability to knock down jumpers, but he is very good at attacking the rim as well. D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO coaches need to be all over Pearson.
