Kids growing up never wanted to be the big, but there are several 2019 prospects that have flourished in their roles. Bigs clean up the garbage, attack the glass, set the screens, and anchor the defense. While there is a lack of depth in the position, there is not a lack of skill. This article looks at 5 unsigned bigs from all over the state.
Anthony Brown (Midfield): If you haven’t seen Brown play this year, shame on you. Anthony is a 6’6 225 pound pit bull. Brown plays with a high motor. He has worked hard to improve his ball skill and range, and he is hard to stop 18ft and in. His 16 rpg leads the state. On the year, Brown averages 19-16-2 on the offensive end. Defensively, Brown plays well in help side and averages almost 2 steals per game and over 1 block. Brown is a D2, NAIA, JUCO level recruit.
Jahsan Upshaw (Stanhope Elmore): Jahsan is a hyrbid forward that has really worked hard to improve his ball skill. Upshaw is 6’5 and has the ability to play multiple spots on the floor, but he is a hard matchup when he plays the 4/5. He has a good stroke and shown the ability to knock down 3s. He rebounds well and can defend multiple positions. D2, D3, NAIA, JUCO level recruit
Sabatian Terry (Lawrence Co): Terry is a 6’9 physical kid. He’s a really good rebounder. Hard to keep off the glass and out of the paint. He’s plays through contact. Terry is an above average athlete. Best skill is shot blocking. You can’t teach height, and every time Sabatian is on the floor, the kid gets better. JUCO, D2, and NAIA level recruit.
JD Eatmon (Wenonah): If Wenonah wins a state title this season, Eatmon will have a big role in that. JD is a 6’8 long athlete. He has improved throughout the season. Eatmon does a good job cleaning up the garbage and anchoring the Dragon’s defense. On the year, JD has averaged 13 points, 10 boards, and 2 blocks. He is primarily being recruited at the JUCO level.
Austin Kelley (Pleasant Home): Kelley is a 6’7 skilled post. He has good shooting range, and can score at all three levels. Austin is a solid rebounder. His must underrated attribute is his playmaking ability. Austin can handle the ball, and he has good vision. On the season, Kelley averages 21-12-4. High D2, NAIA, and high D3 level recruit.
