LFA has top 10 2021 Olivier-Maxence Prosper, but St. Viator’s depth was too much as they ran away with this one by a final of 65-40. Here are our 5 Takeaways: St. Viator vs Lake Forest Academy!
St. Viator’s Dynamic Duo Back
This team will go as far as their senior 1-2 punch of Jeremiah Hernandez and Treyvon Calvin will take them. Calvin had been out for a while with an injury, but he recently returned and he makes quite a difference! The Wright State commit is a crisp passer that makes sound decisions with the basketball. Pesky defender with active hands. He can also shoot it too. He had 5 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals in the win. Hernandez jumped all the way up to #7 in the latest PHI rankings after he has taken his game to a new level as a senior. The Kent State signee will be an impact player there from day one. Such a skilled and well-rounded offensive weapon. Threw several bullet passes. Slick handles getting to the rim. Plus shooter from three and mid-range both pulling up and off the catch. Always in rhythm with elevation off the floor. He had 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Both played less than 3 quarters in the win.
Supporting Cast Shows Depth
Although Hernandez and Calvin are the heart and soul of this team what makes this team intriguing is their depth. That begins with Connor Kochera. The skilled wing is a plus shooter off the catch. Moves extremely well to get open for threes along with cutting through the lane for scores where he catches it and lays it in. Has some athletic pop off the bounce. Sound multi-positional defender. Went for 16 points. Michael Huene is a big man that rebounds and has a soft touch around the hoop. Scored 8 points. Michael Campagna can shoot it from deep and got out in transition a couple times for layups en route to 10 points.
St. Viator Ready for State
In 3A anything can happen. This team has the star power along with a veteran group of supporting players to make a run in March. They will be in the Grayslake Central Sectional where they will most likely have to face DePaul Prep to advance.
Olivier-Maxence Prosper has Bright Future
This jumbo combo forward from Canada made his debut in the PHI 2021 Rankings at #10. Definitely has a chance to continue to move up the board. Great size for position and plus athleticism. At times he can be a bit wild with the rock and loose with his handles. Opened this game off with a sweet baseline pull up jumper. Also had a spinning layup off the bounce for an and-1. Other than that a lot of his points on the night would come from the free throw line. He won off the dribble with his long strides and got fouled quite a bit. Soft touch on his free throws. Showed he could handle it some in the open floor including an impressive play where he grabbed a defensive rebound and went the length of the floor for a bucket. Missed quite a few jumpers, but they were all crisp, in rhythm with sound mechanics, and had a lot of arc. Should grow into a quality shooter. He had 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block.
LFA Guards Show Flashes
A couple of Lake Forest Academy senior guards had their moments. 5’11” point guard Bellamy Marcus is a quick twitched guard that pushes the pace and gets to the rim with acrobatics in transition. He had 10 points. Dane Quest is a bigger shooting guard with plus athleticism that is quick to the offensive glass and is a finisher in the open floor. Went for 12 points.
