Continue ReadingPrep Hoops took the 2 hour drive up to Bishopville to watch this 2nd Round Class AA Playoff Game. The Southside Christian Sabres based out of Simpsonville came away with a 62-58 victory in overtime. The Sabres now advance to the 3rd Round to play Silver Bluff HS on Tuesday.
MVP : Matthew Kormylo (2019) – Southside Christian (pictured on front)
Kormylo was clutch down the stretch for the Sabres in the road victory. Kormylo handled the rock a lot today and drove to the cup a high percentage of the time with confidence. Kormylo 6’5 finished with 24 points in the win and kept the Sabres playing into the 3rd Round.
Kormylo currently has 1,494 career points and is averaging 23 ppg this season. University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and Incarnate Word are showing interest in Kormylo according to Sabres Head Coach Rick Remer.
Player of the Game : Chris Chumney (2019) – Southside Christian
Chumney is not big in height but he came up big today with shots. Chumney hit several 3 pointers on his way to 19 points. Chumney plays with a lot of confidence and scrappiness on the floor. Chumney currently has 1,021 career points. Chumney has received interest from Southern Wesleyan (SC), Covenant (GA) Piedmont (GA) and Pfeiffer (NC) according to Remer.
Best Unknown Post Player : Ian Thomsen (2021) – Southside Christian
Thomsen 6’9 was first seen by Prep Hoops back in the spring on the Grassroots circuit. Thomsen runs the floor well and plays with his back to the basket. Thomsen has nice hands and has the ability to step-out and shoot the 16-19 footer on he perimeter. Thomsen will be a player to watch in the years to come with his development.
Best Underclassmen : DaVeon Thomas (2021) – Lee Central HS
Thomas couldn’t get the Stallions to the win and struggled here today at times with his play. Thomas played a bit too fast at times today with the ball. Thomas has the ability to really penetrate and kick with ease. Thomas is ranked #4 in the Prep Hoops 2021 Palmetto State Class. Thomas will put this game behind him and move forward to a bright future for sure.
Best Freshman : Lebron Thomas (2022) – Lee Central HS
Thomas a left-handed guard were first saw run with Florence International Basketball Association (FIBA) Thomas went coast to coast on several plays today and likes to score the ball while attacking the rack. Thomas 6’2 along with his teammate DaVeon Thomas will anchor down the Stallions backcourt in the years to come.
