Although the district tournament is double elimination, both teams displayed a ton of heart in this offense-dominant contest. After Riverside went up big in the third quarter, Crossings fought back, forcing overtime and subsequently winning at home, 76-72.
There were five players that stuck out between both teams but the most unlikely guy had the biggest impact.
Reid Lovelace, Crossings:
Lovelace is a freshman and the best player for the Knights. Early in the contest, he showed his ability to distribute the ball by getting his teammates involved, dishing out 4 assists early on. The first half wasn’t ideal for him offensively, where he shot 2-of-7 from the field but when it mattered in the third and fourth quarter, as well as OT, he scored 18 of his 24 points.
Lovelace essentially dominated the important moments of this game, while controlling the offense and played a lead role in the Knights comeback victory.
Daniel Koorce, Crossings:
Koorce, along with Lovelace played one of the most vital roles in Crossings winning this game. He also started slowly in the first half and bounced back after halftime.
In a game full of offense, his defense in the fourth quarter is what piqued my interest. His on-ball defense, along with his help defense was an underrated aspect of this game and played a lead role in Crossings fighting back in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.
Koorce finished the contest with 17 points, 11 of which he scored in the second half and overtime.
Cooper Gudell, Crossings:
The third head of the Knights three-headed monster was Guddell, a sophomore, who serves as Crossings three-point threat. He scored 12 points in the first half, which kept Crossings in this game at halftime. In the second half and overtime, he only scored nine points but those nine came in important moments.
Titus Owens, Riverside:
Owens is the most athletic for Riverside and was probably the most athletic in the gym. At 6-foot-1, he served as their center and played the position well against his larger counterparts.
Owens pulled down 11 rebounds and scored 13 points.
Isaac White Bull, Riverside:
White Bull wasn’t as obvious of a star for Riverside but his versatility got him on this list. His ability to take defenders off the dribble and score at the rim, while also being able to shoot from long-distance is what makes him so special. Just like Owens, White Bull finished with 13 points. He was a consistent force throughout the game.
Crossings had homecourt advantage but Riverside had their number and was a couple of big shots away from knocking off the Knights in their arena. Both teams will make a push for the state tournament behind their ability to shoot the three.
