20) Isaiah Folkes | 6’3” | Stonewall Jackson (#47 Overall)
Folkes is a guy at 6’3” who has great athleticism to play both wing positions and he can handle it and create his own shot as well. He’s a high level athlete with a quick first step, good end-to-end speed and great leaping ability to finish around the rim. He’s chock full of potential and still has a lot of room to grow on both ends of the floor.
19) Chase Beasely | 6’4” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#44 Overall)
With good size and length on the wing, Beasley’s a little different than some of these other guys because he’s a good playmaker with the ball in his hands. He can push in transition, he has good vision and he’s very unselfish on the floor, which fits the Saints’ perfectly. When he’s aggressive and plays hard on both ends he can make plays and make everyone better.
18) Malachi Poindexter | 6’2” | STAB (#43 Overall)
Poindexter has struggled with injuries throughout the years but when he’s been healthy he’s played well, and even made the Prep League Tournament team. The 6’2” guard has good length, he can make shots from all three levels and has a natural feel for the game. He’s wired to go so he needs his looks, but he’s a guy who can create and make shots from all over.
17) Jaden House | 6’2” | Henrico (#42 Overall)
Another natural scoring guard, House is the prototypical two man who can flat out fill it up. He has good size and he’s a guy who can score it in any way that you can imagine. On the ball he can get to the cup and finish and can create space for his shot, and off the ball he moves well and can knock down shots from all over the court. He’s a late bloomer who should be really good moving forward.
16) Sese Mobutu | 6’2” | Bishop Ireton (#41 Overall)
Mobutu can really be considered a combo guard, because he can create for both himself and others off the bounce with the ball in his hands. He’s a good defender on the basketball and has a natural feel for the game on both ends of the floor. He has a good pull-up and middle game and with his strength he’s able to get downhill and finish at the basket as well.
15) James Berry | 6’3” | Bishop Ireton (#38 Overall)
Berry really impressed me in the WCAC quarterfinals where he hung 21 on Paul VI who is widely considered one of the best teams in the state and in the WCAC. He has great length allowing him to make plays on both ends, and he’s active in help on the defensive end to get steals and take charges. He showed great touch from deep, going 4-for-5 from behind the arc, and he’s great moving off the ball and finding his opportunities. He’s a skilled and smart guy who impacts the game in a number of ways.
14) Jamal Barnes | 6’4” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#34 Overall)
Barnes is a guy who has the “it” factor as far as his leadership and understanding of the game. He plays with great energy on both ends of the floor, he hits the glass and he talks defensively and he’s all over the floor. He’s a good athlete with a good frame and he can finish at the rim, and he also has a nice pull-up in the mid-range as well. He’s a glue guy who helps make everyone on his team better.
13) TJ Gadsden | 6’5” | Bishop O’Connell (#32 Overall)
Gadsden has dealt with injuries and has struggled to get some time on a stacked O’Connell squad, but expect this summer if he’s healthy for him to have a breakout year. A big wing with a good frame, Gadsden gets a lot of his work done in the paint against smaller wings where he can finish over top and help on the glass. He’s skilled, smart and an efficient scorer as well.
12) Kenard Richardson | 6’3” | Varina (#27 Overall)
The unsung hero of a very talented Varina team, Richardson is a guy who should be on college coaches radars for this summer to check out. He’s a two-way player who can guard the opposing team’s best player and he while he isn’t super explosive his lateral quickness is solid. He has a big frame and plays like a bully, and he’s able to hit the pull-up with a hand in his face or get to the rim and get to the line.
11) Garrett Johnson | 6’5” | Oakton (#23 Overall)
A natural scorer with good length and bounce, Johnson was Region Player of the Year and should see a lot of college attention this summer. Johnson’s a fluid athlete who can run the floor and finish above the rim, rebounds well for his position and can guard multiple positions. He can catch and shoot from deep, and he’s able to rip and get to the basket in straight lines where he can use his athleticism to finish at the rim.
