20) Daniel Deaver | 6’7” | George Marshall (#47 Overall)
A super skilled, smart and productive big man, Deaver is a guy the old heads would love because he’s a throwback, back to the basket big man who is a crafty and talented scorer around the rim. He can shoot the jump hook with both hands, he has an array of fakes, he understands angles and he hits the glass on both ends. While he scores it well on the block he’s also a good passer, he runs the floor well and he can step outside and hit the midrange as well.
19) Izeah Parker | 6’7” | Hopewell (#45 Overall)
Parker is a guy who has a ton of upside and if he fills out at the next level (where he’s committed to Coppin State) he should become a more consistent player on the offensive end. He’s very lanky and bouncy, he moves well in the open court and on the perimeter and his length allows him to alter and block shots around the rim. He has a solid midrange game off the catch or a couple of dribbles and he can finish above the rim as well.
18) Jonas Munson | 6’11” | West Potomac (#42 Overall)
Committed to Central Arkansas, Munson is a guy who is a project at that level but you can’t teach the things that he brings to the table. His physical presence in the paint is enough to alter shots and change the game plan, and he has soft touch around the rim on the offensive end. The things he needs to work on are possible to get better at such as mobility, footwork and hands, and Munson has shown some improvement in high school so he’ll likely get better with development in college as well.
17) Mack Burgett | 6’7” | LC Bird (#34 Overall)
Burgett recently committed to Anderson, a division two school in South Carolina, and if you talk to anyone around the Richmond area who has seen LC Bird this year will tell you that he’s going to be a steal for them. The ultimate glue guy, Burgett brings a blend of size, versatility and toughness to your team. He’s a gym rat who will come in and work and compete from day one, he’s a smart player who understands the game and he has a skill set that leads to mismatches when he’s on the floor.
16) Bassirou Diop | 6’7” | Great Bridge Christian (#27 Overall)
Diop transferred back tot he 757 after spending a year at St. Frances Academy in Maryland where he committed to Hampton University last season. While I didn’t get to see him his junior season at SFA, I was impressed with the development that came from a project big man at Bayside to now a skilled and athletic face up four man who can also play some three if he teams wants to go big. He can guard multiple positions, he’s a good rim protector and rebounder and he can hit open shots from deep as well as finish above the rim.
15) Tyrese Jenkins | 6’7” | Varina (#26 Overall)
The 2018 VHSL Class 5 Player of the Year, Jenkins is still an available big man who can impact the game in a number of ways both inside and outside of the paint. He’s a zone buster at the high post where he can shoot or pass to pick it apart, he can iso slower bigs and put it on the deck to get the rim and he attacks the glass on both ends. Defensively he has good length and timing, and he’s an above average athlete who can finish above the rim and protect it as well. He may be in between positions but he’s a flat out player who always impacts the game when his team needs it.
14) DeAundre Wilkins | 6’10” | Great Bridge Christian (#23 Overall)
Wilkins came from North Carolina to GCA with renown trainer Donald Hand and in about three months before the season started he had dropped over 30 pounds and committed to Wagner. While he is still somewhat of a project the strides that he made are still impressive. His body looks good so he’s becoming more mobile, he can use his strength to seal and finish with either hand and he has soft touch out to about 15 feet. If he can continue to keep his weight down and improve on the offensive end he’ll be a nice addition at Wagner.
13) Joel Kabimba | 6’9” | Middleburg Academy (#22 Overall)
A late bloomer who still needs some work but comes with a solid skill set, Kabimba is looking like a guy who will pan out nicely at whatever school he ends up at. He’s a physical and athletic specimen who runs the floor well, has good strength in the post where he can bang with guys on both ends and he’s a menace on the glass too. He has good quickness and leaping ability, he can work in face up situations offensively and he’s a guy who can impact the game without many plays being called for him.
12) Kenan Sarvan | 6’9” | Bishop Sullivan (#21 Overall)
Different than many of the bigs on this list, Sarvan is originally from the Netherlands and he has a European style game that will fit very well at St. Joe’s where he committed. At 6’9”, you can put Sarvan at the high post or the top of the key and run the offense through him. He’s a good shooter from deep, he has great vision and passing ability both on the perimeter and in the post and he’s still athletic and strong enough to rebound and finish above the rim in the paint.
11) Charles Thompson | 6’8” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#20 Overall)
Thompson is the perfect example of a project working out because of great player development. As a freshman he was a somewhat goofy big man who had decent mobility and okay hands, and now he’s a force in the paint who can score with his back to the basket or in face up situations, he’s athletic enough to run the floor and finish above the rim and he’s an excellent defender in one-on-one situations and in the help. He went from “maybe he’ll work out” to one of the top bigs in the DMV who is committed to Towson in the CAA.
