George Mason, Georgetown, Maryland, Mount St. Mary’s, and Oklahoma State were in the gym for this one. Below we’ve recapped this contest with a look at the 10 best.
BEST PLAYER | JUSTIN MOORE | DEMATHA ‘19
Justin Moore set the tone for DeMatha with his passion and unrelenting intensity. The Villanova commit scored 19 tough points and was a terror on the offensive glass.
BEST INSIDE PRESENCE | HUNTER DICKINSON | DEMATHA ‘20
7-1 center Hunter Dickinson actively and pridefully protected the rim, but was also the fulcrum of DeMatha’s offensive attack. The five star junior commanded double teams every time he touched the ball and operated with impressive efficiency.
BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | TREVOR KEELS | PVI ‘21
Trevor Keels is growing in stature as PVI’s best player this season. The emerging sophomore pumped in 21 points, showcasing a wide arsenal of offensive moves. We must also say that Keels also did a decent job defensively in his matchup against Moore.
BEST OBSCURE PERFORMANCE | JAHMIR YOUNG | DEMATHA ‘19
Jahmir Young was the game’s best passer, but a lot of his other contributions won’t show up in the stat sheet. The Charlotte commit was alert defensively, and recorded his fair share of deflections/steals.
BEST VERSATILITY | EARL TIMBERLAKE | DEMATHA ‘20
Earl Timberlake is a like swiss army knife. The junior wing can do a bit of everything on both ends of the court, and we saw that last night. Perhaps most impressive aspect of Timberlake’s performance from last night was how much he’s improved as a ball-handler.
BEST MOTOR | WILL PAIGE | PVI ‘20
Will Paige is like the Energizer Bunny. Whenever he comes into the game, he gives PVI an immediate jolt with his relentless work rate.
BEST SHOOTER | JOSIAH FREEMAN | PVI ‘20
Whether its catch and shoot, spot up, or pull-up, Josiah Freeman showed that he’s comfortable doing it all. The junior wing, who is a talented scorer, also mixed it up nicely with some tough left-handed finishes at the rim.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | DUG MCDANIEL | PVI ‘22
Dug McDaniel has settled in nicely into his role as PVI’s starting point guard. The freshman is doing a good job of taking what the defense gives him, and his perimeter jump shot continues to improve.
BEST PLAY
This probably wasn’t the sexiest play of the night, but the results were effective. DeMatha’s execution against PVI’s zone was quite impressive at times, and this is just one example of their efficiency.

BEST STORY TO WATCH MOVING FORWARD
These two teams will meet again on Sunday, but not before more significant games in conference this week. The Panthers will face O’Connell and the Stags will face Gonzaga before then. Can they both take care of business before the rematch?
