BEST SLEEPER | DEVON PARRISH | PATRIOT ’19
We got our first good look at Devon Parrish last night, and he was impressive in multiple facets of the game. Listed at 6-foot-3, Parrish is a solid rebounder for a guard. He stood out most offensively, given his ability to handle, create space, and shoot from a variety of different scenarios.
BEST PLAYER | DANIEL DEAVER | MARSHALL ’19
Daniel Deaver might not be happy with last nights result, but he can be proud of his effort. The 6-foot-7 unsigned senior, who scored a game-high 29 points, easily had a double-double with about six blocks and a handful of dimes. Deaver continues to fly under the radar, which is unfortunate given the fact that he continues to improve.
BEST POINT GUARD | HAGEN VANDIVER | PATRIOT ’19
Hagen Vandiver is a lot of fun to watch. The 5-foot-9 point guard immediately stood out with his willingness to hit the defensive glass, but he was also devastating in transition with explosive end-to-end speed, crafty ball-handling, ability to shoot from long distance, and change speeds quickly.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | JACKSON FORD | PATRIOT ’20
6-foot-4 forward Jackson Ford was excellent off the bench. The long-limbed lefty played with a high motor and was a threat to knock down shots from the corner.
BEST SHOOTER | JACK TAYLOR | MARSHALL ’21
There were several good shooters in this game, but arguably none more impressive than Jack Taylor. The lanky 6-foot-3 catch-and-shoot specialist exhibited a quick, compact release and the ability to make shots on the move or while spotting up.
BEST POST DEFENDER | JAKAI MOORE | PATRIOT ’19
Jakai Moore did a decent job walling up and defending Deaver in the post. He used his long arms to stay vertical and make things as difficult as possible.
BEST GLUE GUY | YUSEF SALIH | PATRIOT ’20
6-foot-2 guard Yusef Salih impacted this game in a variety of ways. He made shots, hit the boards, and showed that he is a reliable playmaker as well.
BEST FEEL | RYAN SCHLAFFER | MARSHALL ’19
Ryan Schlaffer stood out with his off-ball movement and efficiency with the ball. He also used his length to make an impact defensively.
BEST OBSCURE PERFORMANCE | MARCUS TAYLOR | PATRIOT ’19
There were several things that Marcus Taylor did in this game that won’t show up on a stat sheet, but were integral parts of this win. The 6-foot-1 guard played with a relentless motor, which resulted in extra possessions for his team. Taylor doesn’t do too much with the ball, but he showed that he is skilled and efficient.
BEST STORY TO WATCH MOVING FORWARD
With this win, Patriot has clinched a state berth for the first time in school history. How far can they go?
