Preseason favorites in the area like Dublin Coffman, Pickerington Central, Hilliard Bradley and Columbus South are all rolling. You have your big time players putting up terrific numbers, like Ben Roderick 29 PPG. Also, Von Cameron-David right behind him at 28.5 and Logan’s Bo Myers putting up a blazing 25.8 PPG.
With winning, comes adversity at some point. Columbus South suffered it’s first loss to Walnut Ridge, in the second game of the season series. However, both teams are tied upon the top of their City League division.
Pickerington Central was off to a hot 12-0 start, before Sam Towns and Jay Rodgers had to sit due to the transfer rule. A tough break for the Tigers, losing two key contributors. Central fell to a talented Pickerington North team led by stud Sophomore Jack Sawyer.
Many teams hit a bump in the road, and Pick Central did just that, but they bounced back. Defeating a very good Trotwood team at Flyin To The Hoop, Central showed they are still capable.
This season we have seen high IQ underclassmen like Griffin Shaver of Ontario take over games. Also, we have seen high IQ upperclassmen like Matt Allocco step up big time, after his team lost Jack Pugh for the season.
A couple months into the season, there has been some huge scoring outputs. Ben Roderick dropped a 51 point game, and Galion’s Isaiah Alsip dropped a 40 ball in MOAC play.
Also, Olentangy’s Sean Marks, an Ohio Dominican D2 commit reached a much deserved 1,000 points. We have also seen Juniors Von Cameron Davis and CJ Anthony do the same.
Early on we were put on notice of big time freshman, the best yet being Worthington Christian’s DJ Moore. The star newcomer is putting up just under 19 PPG for the Warriors.
Game winners, have been big, and the latest coming from Hilliard Davidson. Senior WF Jacob Drees nailed a turnaround with 0.6 seconds remaining to take down Olentangy Liberty in a classic of a game.
No shortage of Surprises teams, Thomas Worthington is 11-3 led by an Ohio commit Ben Wight and two stud sophomores. Delaware Hayes is also off to a nice run at 10-4. We’ve watched Logan steam to a 10-2, including a big time 23 point steam roll of Pickerington North.
The high school season comes and goes in a blur, in all reality. So sometimes it’s good to look back on some key components of what has happened thus far. With much more to come, let’s see what February and March has in store for Central Ohio.
