- T1-North Buncombe HS 7-3
The Blackhawks have lost to West Henderson HS twice and to Enka HS. Senior Ren Dyer is averaging close to 29 points per game and has had a game of 53 against Freedom HS, one of the top teams in the state. The play of Malachi Hammond has been big for The Blackhawks this season, along with Jack Ritchie, Dalton Whitt and JT Laws.
T1-Tuscola HS 7-3
Tied with North Buncombe HS is Tuscola who’s losses come from Reynolds, North Buncombe and Asheville HS. Tuscola’s all-time leading scorer is Landon Henley, a 6-foot-7 forward who broke the scoring record earlier this week at almost 1900 points. The play of Max Rogers and sophomore Nate Brafford has been key to their success.
2-Asheville HS 6-3
The Tyrece Thompson led Cougars are one game out of first place in the conference and rely on a bevy of athletic forwards and guards to keep them winning. Marvin Pearson and Famous Pasley are two of the players that are having really strong seasons besides Thompson.
T3-Reynolds HS 5-4
Reynolds HS had a very strong start to the season before dropping 6 out of the last 9. 2020 guard Tyler Parton is averaging 14 points per game, forward Jeremiah Dorsey is having a strong season in the post, wings Jalen Crowder and Ethan Hefner are double-digit scorers.
T3-Enka HS 5-4
Jake Smith, Drew Raper and Devon Bassette are leading the Jets this season. They have already knocked off conference leader North Buncombe this season. Should be a team to watch come conference tournament time.
4-West Henderson HS 4-4
Ben Bryson missed two games during conference already this season and West Henderson HS lost both contests. They have beaten North Buncombe twice. This is going to be my sleeper pick for winning the conference tournament and maybe upsetting a team in the first round of the playoffs.
5-Erwin HS-5-5
Erwin goes as Rashod Chaffin goes. When the senior guard score in the 20’s, Erwin usually wins or is very close, when he doesn’t, it’s a loss.
6-North Henderson HS 1-7
7-TC Roberson HS 1-8
