Significant Injuries:
- The worst news is Pendleton County’s Dontaie Allen tore his ACL against Cooper before Christmas. Allen finished his career as the school’s all time leading scorer with over 3,000 points and was averaging nearly 43 points and 16 rebounds per game at the time of his injury. Allen will have surgery next week.
- The next bit of bad news came for Scott County’s Michael Moreno. Moreno broke his foot during the Beach Ball Classic last week and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Michael is expecting to make a recovery in time for the postseason where the Cardinals are still favored to win the state title.
- The least terrible injury was had by Trinity’s David Johnson. The Louisville bound Senior suffered some ligament strains in his knee at the King of the Bluegrass but is expected to be back soon.
New Scholarship Offers:
- Madisonville-North Hopkins Center Ksuan Casey became the latest Junior to get a Division I offer when Evansville offered the big man on Thursday.
- Casey’s teammate Kenny White earned his third offer when Evansville offered the 6’7 forward. White has previously been offered by Kent State and Tennessee Martin.
- Newport also had a pair of teammates offered. Donnie Miller got his first offer from Clark State. Miller recently scored his 1,000th point for the WIldcats.
- Fellow Newport Senior Tahj Harding was also offered by Clark State. Harding was one of the best players last week at the Traditional Bank Classic at Lexington Catholic.
Raymond Reed Classic Preview
- The event gets underway with Whitley County and Russell County facing off. Whitley is sitting at 9-6 halfway through the season while Russell County has struggled to a 3-9 start.
- The 3 pm game takes things up a notch as Corbin and Central Hardin face off. Jacob Hobbs is one of the hardest playing kids in the state while Corbin’s Matthew Taylor is one of the best Juniors that no one ever talks about.
- The third game tips off at 430 and should be another good one. Junior point guard Ja’Rel Montgomery is a really fun player to watch. He’ll lead Bardstown into battle against Senior Adam Sizemore and North Laurel.
- The next to last game tips at 6 pm and is a dandy. Even without Michael Moreno and David Johnson, Scott County versus Trinity is a terrific game and should be tight for 32 minutes. The pace of Scott County against the defensive system of Trinity will be a fun chess match to watch.
- The final game of the day is scheduled to tip at 730 and features the homestanding South Laurel Cardinals taking on Harlan County. These two teams actually played last weekend in the finals of the Dribble Drive Challenge. South Laurel won that game 52-45 and were without Junior Matt Cromer for most of the game after a hard fall. Harlan is led by Alex Pace and will have had an entire week off to get ready for their rematch.
