Week 9 Rankings Update
While weather certainly impacted the last 10 days of high school action around the state, there were still enough games played to result in plenty of movement across the four classes, particularly in Class 3A, where we have a new No. 1 team. We detail some of the key moves below.
Class 4A
-The top two teams remain the same in the class, with North Scott (15-0) and Waukee (13-0) pacing the way. Waukee was impressive in their first two games without star point guard Noah Hart, beating Mason City and Ankeny Centennial by a combined 54 points.
-Sioux City East (13-1) suffered their first loss of the season to Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The Black Raiders fall from No. 3 to No. 5 as a result, with Bettendorf (13-1) and Dubuque Senior (10-2) moving into the 3-4 spots. Senior moved up a pair of spots as another team ahead of them, West Des Moines Valley (13-3) dropped a game to Ames.
-Des Moines North (12-3) lost to DaLaSalle (MN), but only drop a spot. The Islanders have won six of the last seven AAA state titles in Minnesota, so there’s no shame in dropping that game.

Class 3A
-The most topsy turvy class in the state continues to be, with seven of the top 10 teams in last week’s poll dropping at least one game during the past week-plus.
-Maquoketa (14-1) lost their first game of the season to Marion, and fell from No. 1 to No. 4 as a result. The new No. 1 team, Sergeant Bluff-Luton (13-3), leaps over still unbeaten Clear Lake (15-0) behind the strength of a win over Sioux City East, the then-No. 3 team in Class 4A.
-Norwalk (12-3) moves up a pair of spots to No. 3 following their win over Pella (11-4). Speaking of the Dutch, they only drop a spot to No. 5 this week, despite a pair of losses, because of how many other teams in the class dropped games.
-Two newcomers enter the rankings this week in Davenport Assumption (8-6) and Spencer (11-5), at Nos. 9-10, respectively.
