Week 8 Rankings Update
It was a week marred by winter weather and numerous postponements, but there were still enough losses by ranked teams to result in some shakeup in some of the classes. We detail the key movement below.
Class 4A
-Nothing changes this week in 4A, as the ten ranked teams went a combined 14-0.
-That said, there is some big news in the class, as #2 Waukee (11-0) lost point guard Noah Hart for the rest of the season to an ACL injury. Hart was averaging 12.1 points (on 60% shooting), 5.4 assists (to just 1 turnover a game) and was the team’s best perimeter defender. His loss will really hurt the Warriors, who are still more than capable of making a trip to State, but losing Hart really hurts their state title hopes.

-Spencer falls out of the rankings with an 0-2 week, and Storm Lake (9-4) enters at #10. The Tornadoes have lost their four games by a combined 12 points and are riding 3A’s second ranked scoring offense (73.5 points a game) to one of their best seasons in recent memory.

Class 1A
-It continues to be Grand View Christian’s (14-1) world in 1A. The two-time defending champions are blasting teams behind their stellar front court play, with Issa Samake (16.0 points a game), Harounsa Sissoko (15.9) and Arturo Montes (15.7) forming a trio of big men that no team in the state, regardless of class, matches.
-The top six remains the same as last week, with New London (15-0), Montezuma (14-0), Ankeny Christian Academy (12-0), George-Little Rock (13-1) and Ar-We-Va (14-0) following GVC.
-Prince of Peace (12-1) moves up a pair of spots, to #7, following losses by Bishop Garrigan and Exira-EHK. The Irish were impressive in a 62-53 win over 4A Davenport North. Sioux Central (12-1) also moved up two spots to #8.
-South O’Brien (11-4) enters the rankings at #10 this week. The Wolverines have four losses, but like Pella Christian in 2A, have played a difficult schedule, with three of those losses coming to 2A teams, two of which are ranked among the top 4 in the class (West Sioux, Boyden-Hull).
