With that in mind, there are many good games to watch that are not featured in Kettering. Several nice cross divisional matchups will be the games to keep an eye on. Here are the games this week NOT featured at Flyin to the Hoop.
Franklin @ Monroe
This game will be a separation game that breaks a current tiebreaker in the SWBL as both teams are at 3-3.
Keys for Franklin- The Wildcats have shown they can knock down the 3PT ball (#1 in the SWBL at 37.8%), and will need a quick start to gain momentum early on. In their last game against Monroe, the Wildcats only knocked down 5 3’s during the game. They will need to shoot better from the start in this one. In addition, play aggressive from the beginning on both ends of the floor.
Keys for Monroe- The Hornets need to do a better job controlling the glass. They have struggled this season when it comes to rebounding, but especially preventing the Wildcats from getting many second chance points. The defense will also need to be far more aggressive
Fairborn @ Fairmont
We get a nice matchup between GWOC teams midweek. The two teams have been going in opposite directions. Fairborn has won their last 2 games while Fairmont has dropped their last 2. This will be a high scoring affair as both teams average 60 points per game.
Keys for Fairmont- Get hot from behind the arc early. The Skyhawks are one of the better rim protectors in the GWOC. The Firebirds have plenty of guys that can knock down the long range shot. In addition, they will need to contain Shaunn Monroe (2019) and know where he is at all times. Monroe is averaging 26 points per game and has shown he can score from anywhere. Keeping him below 20 points will be crucial.
Keys for Fairborn- Contain the glass. We all know Fairmont has a talented backcourt in Ryan Hall (2019) and Kellan Bochenek (2019), but the Skyhawks will need to take the rebounding away and make the backcourt do all the work. Have another guy step up and assist Monroe. Teams will begin to double team or box-and-1 the Skyhawks to contain him, and if no one fills the void, it will be tough for Fairborn to compete.
Alter @ Chaminade-Julienne
Usually this matchup has league title implications, however in this matchup, the Eagles go in with a 3 game lead over Alter.
Keys for Alter- Run your offense through Brady Uhl (2020). The leading scorer in the GCL, Uhl has tremendous range and has shown he can carry the scoring load when needed. Patience will be the name of the game, as C-J will use their tough ball pressure to try and cause as many turnovers as possible. Limiting turnovers and not coming overwhelmed will be huge.
Keys for Chaminade-Julienne- Defensively the Eagles must do everything they can to stop the Knights backcourt. Milton Gage (2019) and Jack Nauseef (2019) are talented guards, but they will need to shut down Uhl and Dominic Ruffalo (2019) defensively as both play huge roles in the Knights offense. In addition, they must limit Alter’s frontcourt from dominating on the glass as the Knights have some serious size.
Jonathan Alder @ Graham
The CBC will feature a nice cross divisional showdown between two of the top teams in the conference.
Keys for Graham- Protect the basketball from the Pioneers tough perimeter defense. In addition, the Falcons will need to trust their offense early. Graham averages 62 points per game and will need a quick start to ensure a victory. Utilizing their height will also be a key as there are two Falcons in the Top 5 in rebounding.
Keys for Jonathan Alder- Keep the Falcons off the glass. Graham is one of the best rebounding teams in the CBC and demand defensive respect. Brevan King (2019) and Kevin Miller (2020) will need to be accounted for. Finally, pressure the Graham backcourt and create as many turnovers as possible. Jackie Santa-Emma (2020) has shown he is one of the best defenders in the conference. His ability to create turnovers will play a vital role in whether the Pioneers are able to compete or not.
West Jefferson @ Springfield Catholic Central
Another great cross divisional matchup pitting two of the best teams in the OHC against each other.
Keys for West Jefferson- Set the tone early. The Irish are known to get out to quick leads and cause their opponents to dig holes early on. Be aggressive on the glass as Catholic Central struggles rebounding. Finally, utilize current leading scorer Ben Casey (2019) and allow him to do as much as he can against a stingy Irish defense.
Keys for Catholic Central- Don’t worry about getting into a shootout. The Roughriders are one of the top offensive teams in the conference but they face an Irish team which is one of the best defensive teams in the OHC. Don’t get sucked in on stopping Casey, as West Jeff has several guys that can step up and score.
