Greene County Invitational
On the first night of the Greene County Invitational, we had a little bit of a shakeup as Shakamak pulled off an upset of sorts and beat Eastern Greene. EG is only 4-8 now on the season so not overwhelmingly good but this is only Shakamak’s second win on the year. Problem is, they now face a very, very talented Linton-Stockton team that has already beat them this year, by 46 points.
In the second matchup, it was that Linton-Stockton group that beat Bloomington Lighthouse in an easy opening round win. That was followed by Eminence’s revenge win over White River Valley. Eminence has had a great year but they had already lost to WRV by 22 this season so good victory for them. And in the final game of the day, we saw a really solid Bloomfield team take North Central to the woodshed, 60-28. Now, Bloomfield and Eminence will matchup in the semifinals after Linton-Stockton and Shakamak.
Hendricks County Tournament
In the opening round of the Hendricks County Tournament, both Brownsburg and Plainfield got easy wins as they beat Danville and Cascade, respectively. Brownsburg has been very good this year at 7-4 and take down a middling Danville group, 56-35.
On the flip side, Plainfield has been absolutely stellar, moving to a record of 10-0 but clearly have their toughest game of the year coming up as they take on Brownsburg in the semifinal game. For Plainfield, they have taken care of business with all of the beatable teams on their schedule but haven’t really been tested yet. This is the first game where they are at a huge talent disparity and will be interesting to see how they compete. A win here would vault them up in a lot of people’s eyes.
Those two will meet up on Friday along with Avon vs. Tri-West in the prior game for the other semifinal and then everyone will play on Saturday in the Championship games.
Randolph County Tournament
In the opening game of the Randolph County Tournament, Monroe Central got a very fun win over Randolph Southern, 41-40. This is interesting because their very last game before this was also against Randolph Southern and they lost, 53-52, although there were nearly two weeks between the two games.
Now, Monroe Central will look to face Winchester in the semifinal round with Union (Modoc) and Union City facing off in the nightcap on Thursday. The Championship games will be on Saturday.
Quick Hitters:
- Gary 21st Century took another loss last night to move to 7-6. They had a rough winter break as they dropped three of their last five games with losses to Indianapolis Homeschool and Fishers before their loss to Harvest Prep (OH) last night. The rest of the schedule lines up much easier.
- Bishop Chatard is still plugging away as they moved to 8-2 with a win over Covenant Christian last evening. Their only two losses are to Heritage Christian and East Central so not bad losses. However, Guerin Catholic is up next along with a slew of very difficult games including Brebeuf, Roncalli, Metro, Park Tudor, Ritter, and University.
- Lawrence Central picked up another solid win last night taking down Park Tudor easily. Now 9-2, they come out of the break with some impressive wins and now a 6-game winning streak. But, HSE is up this weekend and it will be a challenge.
- With Park Tudor’s loss to LC last night, They are now 7-3 and still look like one of the top teams in 2A. With a loss to Indianapolis Howe in the previous game, that could draw some concerns as they would matchup with them in the tournament but overall, they have some pretty solid wins, just maybe no massive upsets.
- Bishop Luers picked up another loss last night and is now just 1-6 on the season. However, three of those losses have come by 2 points, 3 points, and 2 points. This could easily be a 4-3 team. Don’t be surprised if by the end of the year they might have a sneaky win or two as those close losses came to good teams in Marion, Homestead, and Canterbury. They have shown they play good teams well.
- Have to be a little surprised with just how good Mooresville is this year. They haven’t been solid in a few years but this looks to be a good one as they beat Lighthouse South and are 8-3 so far. Looking ahead, they have a chance to get to 14 wins and beyond if they can pull an upset or two.
