Luckily for them, Virginia is full of guys who can play at all of the levels and are balling out their senior year. Over the next week or so, I’ll be doing best available lists for guards, wings and bigs. There’s a lot of names I want to get out there, so to make things easier I broke them up into different parts.
Here’s a look at the part three of the best available wings in VA.
Charles Tart | 6’4” | Varina
A three and d guy if you ever saw it, Tart would start on almost any other team in the state other than Varina. He has good length and good bounce, he can catch and shoot the deep ball, he finishes above the rim in transition and he can guard multiple positions. He may need a prep year and he’ll definitely be a scholarship level kid if he does.
Moses Nuangki | 6’3” | Carlisle
A native of Australia, Nuangki continues to improve and put up big numbers for Carlisle this season. At 6’3” he’s an above average athlete that can play above the rim, he has a good handle that allows him to create in the half court and while his jumper isn’t knock down he continues to improve in that regard.
Savion Helm | 6’5” | Blue Ridge
Long and athletic, Helm has the physical tools to play at the next level and he continues to improve on his skill set as well. He plays above the rim in transition, he can catch and shoot from the midrange and from deep and he’s a guy who can guard multiple positions when he’s on the floor. He’s becoming much more productive with time.
Jared White | 6’6” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
Another guy who checks the boxes physically, White has great size and great length on the wing which makes him a versatile defender. He’s good off the catch and in limited dribbles, he can play multiple positions and he’s a guy who can get hot quickly. He needs to put on weight but could be a solid get with room to grow.
Josh Talbert | 6’2” | Kellam
Tabert is one that doesn’t exactly pass the eye test, but he’s a walking bucket that can play on or off the basketball. He’s a three level scorer who is an underrated athlete and finisher in the paint, can shoot the ball off the catch or the bounce and he’s a tough kid who will compete with anyone and won’t get outworked.
Kasey Draper | 6’4″ | Northside
Draper has improved a lot over the past few years, and is now one of the most productive guys in the Roanoke area. He plays much bigger than he is at 6’4″ despite not being a crazy athlete because he’s strong and smart. He rebounds well, he can finish over bigger players, he shoots the three much better and he makes good decisions as well.
Chris Shepherd | 6’4” | William Fleming
From a 5’11” point guard as a freshman, Shepherd has bloomed into a playmaking wing with good size and athleticism in transition. He finishes above the rim, he makes plays for others and he has good instincts on the defensive end. He’s chock full of potential and should be a guy who continues to improve if he puts in the work.
Dalton Jefferson | 6’6” | East Rockingham
A big shooter with size, Jefferson is averaging over 20 points per game at East Rock and is part of a wing duo that has them looking like one of the best Class 2 teams in the state. He’s under the radar because of where he plays, but Jefferson can flat out light it up. His size allows him to shoot over people and he can guard in the post as well.
