Luckily for them, Virginia is full of guys who can play at all of the levels and are balling out their senior year. Over the next week or so, I’ll be doing best available lists for guards, wings and bigs. There’s a lot of names I want to get out there, so to make things easier I broke them up into different parts.
Here’s a look at the part one of the best available bigs in VA.
Mahamadou Diawara | 6’9” | Massanutten
Diawara is a guy that should have high major schools start to look at him as one of the best available bigs on the east coast. He hasn’t been playing for long and still has room to grow offensively, but he already has a good skill set with good size and athleticism as well. He isn’t the go-to guy on his team but he’s still a productive player on both ends with a good ceiling.
Jeremiah Davenport | 6’6” | Hargrave
He isn’t the biggest guy at the four spot he’s built in the same mold as like a Grant Williams, a small ball four with great skill set and athleticism. He can catch-and-shoot from deep, rebounds with 6’10” guys, protects the paint, can switch the ball screen and finish way above the rim. He’s a walking mismatch and a really good player that can play at the highest level in my opinion.
Charlie Weber | 6’7” | Bishop O’Connell
Weber is a high academic and hard working player that would be really good in the right situation. He’s the big man version of a three and d guy, someone with really good athleticism that can finish at the rim, catch and shoot from deep and use his athleticism defensively to be really good.
Jarvis Vaughan | 6’8” | Massanutten
A former ODU commit, Vaughan has missed some of his post grad year with injuries but he’s a solid mid major prospect who should see more schools get interested late. He’s a big and bouncy guy with great length that can finish above the rim and protect the rim, he has a good midrange and a competitive spirit about him.
Tariq Balogun | 6’8” | Miller School
Balogun is a guy with a good ceiling and a solid skill set to build on moving forward. Long and athletic he can protect the rim, he finishes above the rim, he can catch and shoot when he’s open and he plays hard on both ends. He has the tools to be a guy who can improve moving forward.
Joel Kabimba | 6’8” | Middleburg Academy
The Middleburg big man has been putting up big numbers throughout the year and has emerged as one of the top available bigs in the state. He has a great frame and a high motor, and his skillset involves being able to face up and put it on the deck. He’s a two way impact guy in the paint with a good amount to grow as well.
Tyrese Jenkins | 6’7” | Varina
In the right system, Jenkins can thrive with his ability to play inside-out offensively and play big in the paint defensively. He’s a zone buster than can shoot it and pick apart the defense at the high post, he’s a good passer and a guy who can put it on the floor and go or post up smaller guys in isolation situations. He’s a good rebounder and decent defender in the paint too.
